Real Flavors, Real Stories!

Welcome to Margot & Montañez, where every bite tells a story. Our journey began not just a few years ago with our founder Jen, but traces back to May 1916, with the birth of her grandmother, Margot. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Margot wasn't just a cook; she was a culinary rebel who knew that good food meant happiness.

Jen grew up under Margot's influence, where a visit to grandma's house meant a delicious escape. At twelve, she was already in the kitchen, baking and learning. Margot's passing at seventy-three left a legacy – a love for food that makes people feel good.

Jen's baking journey has taken her around the world, from Venezuela to the US, Denmark, UK and now Australia, carrying with her a suitcase full of recipes and a heart full of memories. She started with alfajores and other treats, each with a twist that's uniquely Jen, uniquely Margot.

Now in Australia, we're on a mission with Margot & Montañez: to bring a slice of South American warmth mixed with global influences right to your table.

We're about authentic tastes and real connections. Our recipes are a blend of family traditions and the new flavours Jen discovered in her travels.

Margot & Montañez isn't just about food. It's about that feeling of home, of comfort, and of sharing. Whether it's a bite of our alfajores or a new treat we've whipped up, we invite you to join our story. Taste the legacy, share the joy, and make some memories of your own with Margot & Montañez.

It has been a pleasure working with Jen today. Her passion for food and culture with the richness of diversity was unparalleled I would definitely recommend this class to anyone looking to reignite friendships, love, peace for mind and soul with deserts!

A must go for beginners and professionals alike! Or if you want to just go try something different!

The deserts have become my personal favourites now! Thank you Jen for making us feel we were invited to your home with the sharing of food and skills.

The class was ran so well, so much fun to re-create something I fell in love with on my own travels to the Americas. And they taste just the same if not better than I remember
Was made really comfortable instantly and shared many laughs. The information and history around the origins of her particular recipe was so cool to know as well!

The teacher was amazing. Ingredients were all ready measured and she took the time to discuss what link it had to the country it was from and where we could find ingredients

Teacher's response

Thanks for your lovely review, Carol. It was a pleasure to bake with you and Elizabeth. Seeing you both enjoying the desserts without saying a word but with just tons of "ummm's" made my day! Happy baking!

Wonderful relaxed and friendly class. The Alfajores are absolutely scrumptious! The 3 hours flew by and even though we all worked at our own pace it wasn't like we were rushed or waiting around for people to catch up. It just flowed.
Thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend.

Teacher's response

Thank you for your kind feedback Felicity. It was a pleasure baking with you and your niece. Hope her mum enjoyed (and managed to share) the alfajores :)

It was a wonderful experience to learn to bake the Alfajores biscuits with my son through this class. The teacher (Jennifer) was very friendly and explained the steps clearly for us to follow. It was interesting to learn about where this recipe comes from originally and the occasions on which this is baked originally. The quality of the ingredients provided for the baking was also very good.

Jen was a fantastic teacher! She was so kind and clear with each step and taught us very interesting cultural facts. Everything was prepared and provided for us which made things very easy and efficient. We all had a great time making the alfajores and the time flew by before we knew it!

Jen is Venezuelan and proudly demonstrates how to make her grandma’s recipe for gluten free alfajores with us today. Alfajores are delectable biscuit sweets with many variations native to the 8 countries in South America that calls them their own. Usually shared during celebrations like baptisms and weddings and highly popular with adults and children alike. We left with a great many finished with dulce de leche and rolled in desiccated coconut and also an example of one dipped in chocolate. There’s also ready to bake dough to take home. Such moreish treats, you can’t just stop at one. Perfect with a cuppa tea or coffee.

I had a great time learning about alfajores and enjoyed Margot's teaching style. This was a great way to spend Sunday morning - learning about another culture, and enjoying the company!

What a wonderful experience! It was an absolute pleasure having Jen show us how to make delectable alfajores. She is warm and welcoming, has a world of knowledge about all things sweet and is even thoughtful about the use of biodegradable packaging. We had so much fun and we learnt so much. Not only did we make a batch that day, but we had enough dough to bring home to make at least 4 more batches. Oh and I can’t stop eating them!

The ingredients were of high quality, beautifully packed and lots of fun. In my box I received organic flour, sugar, coconut, chocolate pastilles, dulce de leche and a pastry cutter. The pastry cutter that comes in the box is a great addition as a baking tool. We had a great time researching how it was used and the history of alfajores!

The dulce de leche that is included is beautifully made and was more than enough to fill the biscuits generously.

Jen was an absolute joy to interact with and couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating when I had a few hiccups along the way and couldn’t attend due to illness. Jen’s passion and generosity of spirit could be felt throughout all of her communication and the level of support was outstanding.

I’m sorry that it has taken me this long to post my review and that I didn’t get any photos before they were all eaten!

Jen was a fantastic teacher and led the class brilliantly. She was patient, explained things well and was always too happy to answer any question (as silly as they were). Most of all she was fun and felt like part of the team. Would absolutely recommend - The alfajores were delicious!
