Discover Perth through your camera – or your phone – while learning how to create interesting photographs.

2 hours Class size 1 to 2 guests

$89 (Afterpay & PayPal Pay in 4 available)

This relaxed, hands-on photography walk is open to everyone, whether you're using a DSLR, mirrorless camera, compact camera or smartphone. You don't need an expensive camera or lots of technical knowledge – just bring something you enjoy taking photos with.
Perfect for Perth locals, photography enthusiasts and visitors looking for a creative way to explore the city.
Explore & Photograph Perth
We'll wander through the heart of Perth, stopping at a variety of locations that offer completely different photographic opportunities.
Depending on the conditions and pace of the group, our walk may include:
The State Buildings & Treasury – beautiful heritage architecture, details, symmetry and framing
Council House – modern architecture, patterns, lines and reflections
London Court – one of Perth's most distinctive laneways, perfect for architecture, details and perspective
Grand Lane – colourful urban artwork and street photography opportunities
Wolf Lane – murals, textures, hidden details and creative compositions
Elizabeth Quay – city views, reflections, architecture, movement and the Swan River
Rather than simply photographing each location, we'll look at how to find the photograph – exploring different angles, perspectives, light and compositions to create something more interesting than the obvious snapshot
What You'll Learn
Throughout the walk we'll work on:
Composition and framing
Finding and using natural light
Leading lines, symmetry and reflections
Creating depth in your photographs
Choosing stronger viewpoints and perspectives
Photographing architecture and city details
Capturing movement and everyday moments
Looking for colour, texture and patterns
Making the most of the camera or smartphone you already own
Visiting Perth?
If you're visiting Western Australia, this is a relaxed and creative way to explore part of Perth while improving your photography at the same time.
You don't need to carry a professional camera. Smartphone photographers are absolutely welcome.
Whether you're travelling solo, with a partner or simply looking for something different to do while you're in Perth, you'll have the opportunity to discover some well-known landmarks alongside smaller laneways and details you might otherwise walk straight past.
What you'll get
Hands-on photography guidance throughout the walk
Help with composition, light and creative camera techniques
Guidance with your camera or smartphone
Individual help and feedback while you're shooting
Creative challenges to encourage you to see locations differently
Tips you can continue using long after the walk has finished
The opportunity to create your own collection of photographs from some of Perth's most interesting locations

Claire Gilham-Martin is a Perth-based photographer, videographer, and educator whose work captures the quiet, cinematic beauty of Western Australia. Drawn to moody tones, reflective light, and the emotion of stillness, Claire transforms familiar coastal and urban landscapes into stories of atmosphere and place.
Through her photography workshops and mentoring, Claire empowers others to see with intention — guiding students from automatic settings to confident manual control. Her teaching style, often described as patient, clear, and inspiring, helps beginners and enthusiasts alike understand not just how to take a photo, but why it matters.
With a background in both photography and videography, Claire bridges artistry and technical mastery. Whether behind the lens or leading a hands-on class at Perth landmarks like Elizabeth Quay and Fremantle’s Round House, she shares the same passion: helping others discover the magic in light, mood, and moment.
When she’s not editing or teaching, Claire can usually be found exploring the outdoors with her two Welsh Pembroke Corgis, Speckle and Licorice — her loyal (and often muddy) photography assistants. They’ve wandered through more shoots than most people she knows, always reminding her to slow down, look closer, and find joy in the small details.
Claire’s landscape work continues to gain recognition on both national and international stages. Most recently, she reached the Top 101 in the International Landscape Awards 2025, placing Number 41 globally and having her image published in the official awards book. She also achieved Finalist status in the prestigious Landscape Capture Awards, with both of her submitted images. In 2024, Claire was awarded 3rd Place in the Australian & New Zealand Landscape Awards, her image was selected and published, a milestone that marked her continued progression in the competitive landscape photography world.
