2 hours Class size 1 to 5 guests

  $95 - $250 ($250 per guest when you book for 1 guest, $150/guest for 2 guests, $120/guest for 3 guests, $95/guest for 4+ guests) (Afterpay available)

Private lessons are the fastest way to learn photography. Suitable for absolute beginners, we’ll get off automatic mode and cover the most important buttons and functions on your camera. F-stops, ISO, and shutter speeds will be explained in simple English — no confusing technical jargon. The class rotates between teaching and doing. You’ll see clear examples and demonstrations, then put them into practice as we photograph Hillarys Marina. By the end of the session, you’ll be confident using your camera in a range of shooting modes — and ready to take consistently great photos.
What you’ll learn:
  • Get off auto mode and learn how to use your camera
  • Understand light and exposure
  • Understand lenses
  • Exposure (ISO, shutter speeds, F-stops)
  • Photographing different subjects from landscapes to portraits through an understanding of depth of field
  • Learn how to freeze and blur movement

  • 5/5 from Naomi McLaurin, attended Jul 2026: It was exactly what I was looking for! Garry familiarised me with my DSLR Nikon camera functions. I was stuck primarily on Auto and he was able to give me the confidence to manoeuvre and experiment with other specific settings so I can refine catching movement and nighttime shots amongst many other camera techniques. Well worth doing! He tailored the course to what I wanted to learn perfectly! Thank you Garry!
