I’d like to begin by acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the land on which I live, work, and teach — the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. I pay my respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all First Nations peoples.
I’m Rémy, a French furniture maker and woodworker with over 27 years of experience in the craft. My journey began in France, where I undertook a traditional 10-year apprenticeship that shaped not only my skills but also my appreciation for the heritage of fine woodworking. As a journeyman, I traveled across Europe, learning from masters and absorbing different approaches to working with wood before eventually settling in Australia with my family.
These days, I work from my home workshop in Olinda, in the Dandenong Ranges, where I create and teach. Alongside running my own practice, I’m also a tutor at a fine woodworking school in Box Hill. Teaching has become one of my great joys—it’s rewarding to share both the knowledge I’ve gathered over decades and the simple pleasure of working with your hands.
Through my workshops, I invite people into my studio to learn spoon carving and whittling in a welcoming, hands-on environment. These sessions are about slowing down, connecting with the material, and discovering the beauty in shaping something practical and personal from a simple piece of wood.
Whether you’re completely new to woodworking or looking to deepen your skills, I’d love to guide you through the craft that has shaped my life.
