  • 5/5 from John Ashford, attended Jul 2026: My wife and I took Rémy's wooden spoon carving class as an anniversary gift, after she had mentioned wanting to get into wood carving one day. From the moment we arrived, Rémy was incredibly welcoming and created such a relaxing atmosphere, sitting around the fire and enjoying tea while we carved. Rémy was a fantastic teacher, guiding us through each step with patience, encouragement, and a genuine passion for the craft. What really stood out was how he went above and beyond to help my wife get started with wood carving beyond the class, recommending books, tools, and other resources she could use on her journey. The four hours absolutely flew by, and I was amazed at how well our spoons turned out by the end. It was a fun, rewarding, and memorable experience from start to finish. I would highly recommend this class to anyone interested in wood carving. You won't regret it! Thanks again Rémy.

Rémy really knows his stuff, super knowledgeable about the craft and a great teacher, patient and genuinely helpful without making you feel like you don't know what you're doing. I’d like to begin by acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the land on which I live, work, and teach — the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. I pay my respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all First Nations peoples.
I’m Rémy, a French furniture maker and woodworker with over 27 years of experience in the craft. My journey began in France, where I undertook a traditional 10-year apprenticeship that shaped not only my skills but also my appreciation for the heritage of fine woodworking. As a journeyman, I traveled across Europe, learning from masters and absorbing different approaches to working with wood before eventually settling in Australia with my family.
These days, I work from my home workshop in Olinda, in the Dandenong Ranges, where I create and teach. Alongside running my own practice, I’m also a tutor at a fine woodworking school in Box Hill. Teaching has become one of my great joys—it’s rewarding to share both the knowledge I’ve gathered over decades and the simple pleasure of working with your hands.
Through my workshops, I invite people into my studio to learn spoon carving and whittling in a welcoming, hands-on environment. These sessions are about slowing down, connecting with the material, and discovering the beauty in shaping something practical and personal from a simple piece of wood.
Whether you’re completely new to woodworking or looking to deepen your skills, I’d love to guide you through the craft that has shaped my life.
