Looking for fun things to do in Capel Sound with kids? Join this hand building clay class during the school holidays!
In this class, kids will have the opportunity to get creative, learn how to work with clay and create a variety of items such as a bowl, plate, mug, or sculpture
Don't worry if they're new to pottery, our small class sizes ensure that kids will receive all the assistance they need to feel confident and have fun throughout the workshop. They'll get the chance to experience the joy of working with their hands and getting a little messy in the process.
During the workshop, kids will be provided with all the materials necessary to bring their ideas to life. Feel free to let their imagination run wild as they mould and shape the clay into their desired creations. The experience of working with clay can be both therapeutic and exciting, leaving them with a sense of accomplishment.
At the end of the class, they'll proudly have finished pottery pieces, showcasing their newfound skills and creativity. We will then slowly dry them and then fire and put a glossy glaze on them. This takes approximately two weeks before it is ready for collection.

  • 5/5 from Nola Davies, attended Jan 2025: I did the School Holiday Pottery workshop with my 2 grand daughters. It was a lovely activity & we all enjoyed it. Very calming & learnt a lot about making items by hand. Yvonne the teacher was very good & helped when we needed it. We made 3 items using different implements & techniques. I would do this class again & I think my grand daughters would too! Thank you Yvonne & for the cuppa & lovely carrot cake!
  • 5/5 from Jessica Lorenz, attended Jan 2025: The teacher was so engaging with everyone with the kids and adults and was very hands on. She was happy to repeat instructions with the clay and make sure everyone was completing their clay projects in the time frame we had. She was energetic and passionate about what she was doing and made us feel very comfortable! The environment was very fun and relaxing. The 2hour allocated time was a generous amount of time to finish our projects and enjoy some carrot cake at the end! We had a great time.
  • 5/5 from Caitlin Oconnor, attended Jan 2025: My daughter and I really loved this session. It was such a fun mother/daughter activity for the school holidays. There was the opportunity to make quite a few items and even paint them. The teacher was very supportive and would often check in individually with all the people in the class to see if help was needed. My daughter asked to make this regular event for us.
  • 5/5 from Jenny (For Elliot) Wood, attended Apr 2024: My grandson had a wonderful time with Yvonne and was so excited and happy. He said he wants to do pottery forever. As a 5 year old I was a little worried but he must have loved it to participate happily for 2 hours. Thanks so much!
  • 5/5 from Emma Roberts, attended Apr 2024: Kids loved it, well run thank you, 2 hrs was perfect timing. Can't wait to pick up the goodies
