What you'll do
Kickstart your learning with our sewing courses for absolute beginners! During these workshops, you'll learn the absolute basics of using your machine and start on your first project.
This course is perfect for those of you who have never sat at a sewing machine, you're self-taught and want to perfect your skills or maybe the last time you sewed was in high school.
In the first lesson we will cover:
- Sewing safety, hand position.
- Setting your machine to correct settings.
- Wind a bobbin.
- Thread your machine.
- Checking tension.
- Stitch length and width.
- What stitches are best used for particular projects.
- Seam allowance.
- Finishing raw edges.
- French seams.
- All about fabric, sharing the best places to shop for fabric.
- Grainline.
- How to layout your fabric.
- Pinning.
- Cutting.
You'll start on your first project, choosing from a tote bag, cushion cover or pair of PJ/Lounge shorts or pants. All topics covered include tips, advice and troubleshooting so you become confident Sewists at home.
Your second lesson encourages you to make whatever is of interest to you and your teacher will guide everyone individually in the class to suit particular needs.
