What you'll do

In this fun and hands-on workshop, you'll learn lots of tips and tricks to improve your smartphone photography.

You'll be guided on a learning tour where you'll see and capture Melbourne's hidden cafe laneways and colonial architecture. You'll see some of Melbourne's most iconic buildings through a new lens, like RMIT and the State Library Of Victoria.

You'll be coached to discover and develop your personal creative and artistic style, drawing from your personal background and personality. Additionally, you'll learn about the technical aspects of photography:

Learn about composition
Hands on challenges to put theory into practice.
Control your ISO and exposure
Get constructive one-on-one feedback on your photos, so you keep getting better
Learn about and practice travel photography (street portraits, architecture, still life, abstract, landscapes, nature)
Learn to edit easily with your phone, and achieve amazing images

Suitable for all smartphones (Apple, Samsung and others). Runs for approx 3 hours.

Your Melbourne teacher will be either of:
Paul, Luke, Tanya or Belle all professional photographers very experienced in their respective genres and excellent photo tutors as well.

If you are booking for a minor (under 16 years of age) to attend, they must be accompanied by a paying adult

I recently had the pleasure of taking Tania's smartphone photography class in Melbourne, and I must say it was an absolutely delightful experience. Tania's expertise and passion for photography shone through every aspect of the class.

We had Luke David as our teacher and he went through a lot of detail from composition to lighting to editing photos all on our phones. We met at the Ormond statue on RMIT campus and then went to the state library followed by the RMIT design school, we took many photos which he critiqued and edited to perfection. Finally he discussed about taking portraits. It was a very enjoyable afternoon, learnt lots.

We had a great day, our instructor Paul was fantastic! He was prepared to share and explain his love of photography and tips and tricks he has picked up along the way. The course was designed to work well with all phone operating types, our group consisted of iPhone and Google Pixel phones, and he was more than happy to work with both. I found a number of functions and features i didn't know i had with my phone and i was pretty chuffed with the pictures i ended up with. Thanks again to Paul and the rest of the group, a great day!

A really interesting class held by Paul. He shared lots of tips and tricks that are easily accessible on my smartphone that I never knew about. The class was small so we got personal help and it was held at RMIT city campus which was easy to get to and was an interesting place to explore.

I went in with some basic knowledge of elements of design. I came out learning more than I thought I would - including Marco and portrait tips. Teacher was knowledgeable and shared a free editing app that made photography was tangible for newbies. Would recommend!

Tutor, Peter, presented a wealth of photography experience and knowledge to our small group of six that allowed group interaction and one to one advice (in a COVID safe way).
Discussion progressed through the basic (but often unknown) smartphone features, many of the 10 aspects of composition and then included many of the skills of enhancement to present a resultant image that would impress any Social Media user.
Further comments on control of ISO and exposure settings together with commentary on still life, abstract and landscapes, (in addition to the street portraits and architecture) would enhance the presentation.
A session outcome that has certainly changed my 'click and hope' photography to give me the awareness of a better 'click and presentation'
After only 3 hrs attached photos from MEL with additional personal photographs from with learnings from this day
