Smartphone Photography Class Shoot Like a Pro

A fun, creative and beginner-friendly photography class—no fancy gear needed!

2 hours Location Perth Class size 1 to 20 guests   $95 (Afterpay available)

Learn how to take better photos with the camera you already have in your pocket in this 2-hour, hands-on smartphone photography workshop.
Perfect for beginners, creatives, small business owners, or anyone who wants to stop relying on luck and start shooting intentionally with their phone. This session focuses on simple techniques that make a big difference — no complicated apps or editing required.
We’ll meet at Bell Tower before heading on a relaxed photo walk through Elizabeth Quay and London Court. These locations give us a mix of light, reflections, architecture, and textures so you can practise real-world shooting as you learn.
By the end of the session, you’ll feel confident using your phone camera settings and composing photos you’re genuinely proud of.
What we’ll cover
Understanding your phone camera
What all the icons actually do, how to switch modes, and how to take control instead of tapping and hoping.
Light makes the photo
How to spot good light, avoid harsh shadows, and use reflections and shade around the city.
Focus, exposure & sharpness
How to lock focus and exposure, avoid blurry shots, and get crisp images every time.
Composition made easy
Framing, angles, leading lines, and simple tricks to make your photos look more professional.
Editing on your phone (simple & optional)
Quick adjustments using free apps to enhance your images without over-editing.
Hands-on shooting the entire time
Plenty of guidance as we shoot together through Bell Tower, Elizabeth Quay, and London Court.
Please Note: Smartphone Photography Workshops are not currently available on Saturdays, as I run my other photography workshops on Saturdays.
If a Saturday is the only day that suits you, please send me a message. We can either arrange a private one-on-one or small group workshop, or let me know your preferred Saturday.
If enough people express interest in a Saturday smartphone workshop, I'm happy to add one to the schedule and will notify everyone on the waitlist

Claire Gilham-Martin is a Perth-based photographer, videographer, and educator whose work captures the quiet, cinematic beauty of Western Australia. Drawn to moody tones, reflective light, and the emotion of stillness, Claire transforms familiar coastal and urban landscapes into stories of atmosphere and place.
Through her photography workshops and mentoring, Claire empowers others to see with intention — guiding students from automatic settings to confident manual control. Her teaching style, often described as patient, clear, and inspiring, helps beginners and enthusiasts alike understand not just how to take a photo, but why it matters.
With a background in both photography and videography, Claire bridges artistry and technical mastery. Whether behind the lens or leading a hands-on class at Perth landmarks like Elizabeth Quay and Fremantle’s Round House, she shares the same passion: helping others discover the magic in light, mood, and moment.
When she’s not editing or teaching, Claire can usually be found exploring the outdoors with her two Welsh Pembroke Corgis, Speckle and Licorice — her loyal (and often muddy) photography assistants. They’ve wandered through more shoots than most people she knows, always reminding her to slow down, look closer, and find joy in the small details.
Claire’s landscape work continues to gain recognition on both national and international stages. Most recently, she reached the Top 101 in the International Landscape Awards 2025, placing Number 41 globally and having her image published in the official awards book. She also achieved Finalist status in the prestigious Landscape Capture Awards, with both of her submitted images. In 2024, Claire was awarded 3rd Place in the Australian & New Zealand Landscape Awards, her image was selected and published, a milestone that marked her continued progression in the competitive landscape photography world.
