  • 5/5 from Bronwyn Clark, attended Oct 2026: As a first timer with textured art, I found the techniques shown and the advice given very informative. I will definitely be back and can’t wait to try some other art mediums as well. Staff were very friendly and helpful. A wonderful experience I would highly recommend to others.
  • 5/5 from Alexia Baros, attended Jul 2026: It was my first time to any of these classes. Rochelle and everyone else I met were very welcoming and it was a lovely creative environment to be in! Rochelle’s explanation of the different mediums and techniques was great and definitely helped give me the confidence to continue on my own at home. This experience was gifted to me and the voucher was easy to use.
  • 5/5 from Rolanda Pracilio, attended Jul 2026: Great class, alot of fun creating. Highly recommend. Lovely staff and money well spent.
  • 5/5 from Karli Ferrari, attended Jun 2026: Amazing class! Never attended a class I didn’t enjoy! Amazing teacher, helpful and incredibly supportive! My pieces aren’t finish but super excited to finish them off. Thank you for once again being so welcoming into the space.
  • 5/5 from Zarine Kharas, attended May 2026: Learnt & experimented with different techniques of textured art and finally came up with our own masterpieces. Collective Obsessions is the best at what they do!
  • 5/5 from Roberto Gaibisso, attended May 2026: What a fantastic birthday gift idea. It was so much fun. A great open area with a beautiful. Both the owners were so friendly and most importantly very helpful. Step by step instructions that are easy to follow and lots of encouragement!!! I loved the two pieces I created. I highly recommend it and I will definitely be back.
  • 5/5 from Sharon Spooner, attended May 2026: Another awesome class at Collective Obsessions!! Our textured art class was very inspiring with all the different techniques you can use to make your art work come alive. We were given a demonstration of the products on the market with a cost comparison which was extremely informative and helpful because this is an art form you can definitely master further at home. We were given a small plain canvas and a larger framed canvas and after being shown a hands on demo of different techniques, including how easy the medium can be scraped off the canvas to start again we got the opportunity to play and let our shoulders loosen to start producing little master pieces on our practice board and then once confident moving onto your larger canvas to produce something that is uniquely yours. We got the option to add colour as we were sculpting or to come back once dried to add the colour, I chose the latter and look forward to returning to add the colour to my two artworks. At the beginning of the class you feel may feel like you are using two left feet trying to master the tequnique you want to use, but as you use the plenty of time to play with the plaster medium you will find that you will loosen up and soon be feeling quite confident in what you want to interpret in your artwork. Our expert facilitator kindly suggested and guided us as they see things you may not see at the beginning, and although I haven't added any colour yet to my work, I was very happy with what I achieved on both my practice board and my main board. I enjoyed the thoroughly immersive experience of this class, where being able to relax into the session gave you a real insular and mindful experience once the initial feelings of doubt in your abilities faded. Thank you to, our wonderful Irish facilitator and all at Creative Obsessions for another excellent way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely something I can continue playing with at home.
  • 5/5 from Sally Meadows, attended Feb 2026: Great fun playing with the texture medium. Looking forward to working more on my pieces when they have dried.
  • 5/5 from Tracy Barrow, attended Feb 2026: So much fun! Rochelle is amazing, supportive, relaxed, informed! Great morning. Lots of suggestions to try different techniques. We will be back!
  • 5/5 from Merle Cranwell, attended Jan 2026: It was a wonderful class today with Michelle A good class size, presented with such fabulous ideas by. Michelle. I like the new texture medium to try out and my final creation so far!
  • 5/5 from Catherine Hudson, attended Jan 2026: This was so much fun and easy. Rochelle is an awesome teacher. Can’t wait to try another class.
  • 5/5 from Rebecca Rigoni, attended Jan 2026: So enthralling, so many possibilities. Blink and 2 hours are gone...addictive!
  • 3/5 from Rose Miller, attended Dec 2025: I enjoyed being back in the Collective Obsessions studio space for the textured art workshop. Rochelle was her usual welcoming self, I enjoyed her demonstration and trying out a few techniques. For textured art, though, the workshop needs to be a two-part series so that you can refine/ sand/ paint your canvas under the facilitator's guidance and have a finished piece. That said, Rochelle did say we were welcome to come back at a later date if we wanted to paint our canvas and I will be taking up this offer.
  • 5/5 from Jacky Kennedy, attended Sep 2025: We had an amazing afternoon at the textured art class, learning about techniques and styles. Will definitely be back to learn more!
  • 5/5 from Tania Watson, attended Jul 2025: First time working with this medium it was so much fun. Rochelle is a great teacher
  • 5/5 from Narelle Kinsella Narelle Kinsella, attended May 2025: Another fantastic class with Rochelle playing with textured art. Thank you for showing us more creative ways to make cool art.
  • 5/5 from Jenni Alderton, attended May 2025: Really enjoyed the textured acrylic Class. Lots of fun and Rochelle was very helpful and obliging. Will be back to do another!
  • 5/5 from Linda Griffiths, attended May 2025: Having never done art since school, I had an absolutely amazing time. Michelle, the teacher, was fantastic. She explained everything and demonstrated several examples, after finding out what our interests were. We then had time to 'play' on a small canvas, then delve into another project on a larger canvas. I had such a great time.
  • 5/5 from Nina Philipp, attended Mar 2025: We went to this class during one of our Skill Building and Independence Group Programs for individuals with disability. We've been hosted beautifully and everyone took away a wonderful memory from this place. We would love to come back!
  • 5/5 from Tahnee Newton, attended Dec 2024: Very informative & lots of fun!
  • 5/5 from Linda Triantopoulos, attended Sep 2024: Loved the atmosphere. The simple but effective way that the technique was taught encouraged even a newby to participate and get good results. Only suggestion would be to start off with some basic technique *using different pallet knives etc) to get the feel of the medium and how it moves before the one we were taught today.

Collective Obsessions is a creative studio and community space in Balcatta, Perth, designed for people who want to try new things, make cool stuff, and surprise themselves. We're also proud 3 x Time SBA Award winners!
What started as a love of getting hands-on with creative mediums has grown into a colourful, welcoming studio offering workshops, open studio sessions, memberships and private events. We work across a range of mediums including resin, alcohol inks, water marbling, acrylic pouring, textured art and so much more.
More than anything, Collective Obsessions is about people. Our workshops are filled with first-timers, returning guests, and our beautiful creative tribe who make the studio feel like home.
If you’ve ever said “I’m not creative”, you’re exactly who we’re for.
We’re on a mission to…
Make creativity feel accessible, fun and safe.
We believe creativity isn’t about talent or experience - it’s about giving yourself permission to play.
Our mission is to create a space where people can slow down, switch off their busy brains, connect with others, and feel proud of what they make.
Whether you’re joining us for a one-off workshop or becoming part of our creative tribe, we want you to leave feeling lighter than when you arrived.
Our top tips for beginners is…
Don’t overthink it - just start.
You don’t need any experience, skills or artistic background. We’ll teach you the techniques, guide you step-by-step, and then encourage you to make it your own. The best pieces often come from experimenting, happy accidents and trusting your instincts.
There is no “right way” to create here.
You’ll leave our workshop feeling…
Proud, relaxed and slightly obsessed.
Most people walk in feeling unsure and walk out buzzing - with something beautiful in their hands and a new appreciation for their own creativity. Many leave already planning what they want to try next.
Meet the Team:
Rochelle - Owner
Raised by a creative dad and a crafty mum, Rochelle has had art running through her veins from day one. From charcoal sketches and fashion design to photography, creativity has always been her language.
These days, Rochelle pours her energy into art, nature-inspired wood pieces, flow art, and guiding others on their creative journeys. Her passion is contagious, her encouragement endless, and her favourite moment is watching someone realise, “OMG… I made that!”
Fuelled by laughter, ocean swims, studio time, and anything chocolate, Rochelle is your biggest creative cheerleader.
Meet Mean Boss – aka Jamie
Co-Founder & Artist
Affectionately known as Mean Boss (don’t be fooled - he’s a big softie), Jamie is drawn to the quirky, the unexpected, and the beautifully imperfect.
With roots in photography and a deep respect for nature and traditional craftsmanship, Jamie’s creative journey led him into timber, then expanded into charcoal, resin, acrylics, ink, graphite, and beyond. Always experimenting, always pushing boundaries, and often breaking things along the way (the okay kind).
Back in the studio, Jamie brings relaxed vibes, big ideas, and a little mischief to everything he creates.
That’s our story and we THANK you for reading and taking an interest.
