  • 5/5 from Patrick Langosch, attended Jun 2026: Had a fantastic time at the leather journal-making workshop :) We cut, stamped, and dyed the leather, then hand-sewed everything together to create our own journals. Wendy was an excellent teacher—super helpful and encouraging throughout the whole process. We ended up going overtime, but there was no rush to get us out the door, which made for a really relaxed and enjoyable experience. Everyone had a great time, and I'd highly recommend it!
  • 5/5 from Kirsten Wright, attended Jun 2026: Loved the leather journal class, would recommend to anyone!!!! Wendy was an awesome teacher, very giving with her time and she was happy to answer any and all questions we all had. Her knowledge was extensive. Am looking forward to doing more of her workshops that she has going on. Was very happy with the journal I went home with and it was a privilege to see some of the work that some of my fellow leather workers came up with. Beautiful work by all.

Great value class with high quality materials. So many stamps and colours to choose from. I strongly recommend you check out this class if you’re wanting to try out leather crafting!
  • 5/5 from Sophie Kollo, attended Nov 2025: I absolutely loved this class! Wendy is such a warm and friendly teacher, with a knack for explaining the steps of the project clearly. All the materials were provided to make a beautiful A5 tooled journal cover, with heaps of options to customise the design at every stage, making the finished product something that is truly unique. I learned so much over this workshop and picked up so many great tips from Wendy, and would highly recommend any class she runs. I'm a beginner at leather working and got heaps out of the workshop, but it would also suit people with more experience as there is so much opportunity to customise your project and ask questions.

My name is Wendy Tonkin. I'm a qualified leatherworker with around 10 years of experience. I live in Williamstown, but I'm happy to travel to a good venue to run a workshop. I love to see people empower themselves and build confidence using knowledge by teaching in a fun, safe, supportive, and respectful manner, in a hands-on, fully tactile learning environment, working with the beautiful, natural medium of leather.
I can provide everything required to run a class for adults or children. Numbers may be limited to small groups depending on which workshop it is and what we require to run it. I am willing to travel to interested creative, inquisitive parties and am offering any of the following:
* One-off classes: Set length class learning the basic skills and creating a project to take home.
* Ongoing class: A set length class over several days, weeks, or months to learn the skills to make a bigger project.
* Regular ongoing meet-ups and classes: Ongoing classes held on a regular basis to learn new skills, make friends, and work together on your own projects.
I have up-to-date Working with Children accreditation, required insurance, and class safety is a number one priority. All classes begin with a safety overview and tool rundown.
Costs are calculated depending on the type of project chosen, i.e., how much leather it requires and what kind of hardware we need to complete the job at hand; and obviously the kind of time it will take to finish the project, i.e., is it a half-day or full-day class, or maybe an ongoing class one day a week over 4 or 6 weeks.
I can run classes making such projects as bags, journal covers, card holders, knife pouches, tool covers and pouches, wristbands, heavy metal gear, passport covers, bottle covers, hair barrettes, guitar straps, and belts, among other things, teaching saddle stitching, tooling and carving, edging, antiquing, leather braiding, template making, marbling, as well as safe tool use, and leather differences.
Please reach out if you would like to catch up for a chat or for me to give you a call with any further information. I would love to hear from you.
Thank you so much for taking the time to have a read. Yours in crafting,
Wendy Tonkin
