Very helpful and supportive, with a great spread of food and drinks to nibble on during the class. • 5/5 from Michelle Richardson, attended Jan 2026: Good fun afternoon learning to do a mosaic lamp. I'll be doing more classes definitely!!
  • 5/5 from Maria Robinson, attended Jan 2026: As always, great teachers, great set up, you'll always come away with something satisfying and a fantastic creative space. They really have thoguht of everything, and it runs like clockwork. Just turn up and enjoy.
  • 5/5 from Zhada McLaughlin, attended Jan 2026: We did the Turkish Mosaic Lamp Class with my husband, mum, and mother-in-law, and it was such a special experience to share together. There were around 16 people in our class, and none of us had any prior experience, but the instructor was lively, friendly, and made the class really fun and engaging from start to finish. We chose the table lamp option (the larger size) and were so happy with our decision — it was incredibly rewarding to see the finished pieces come together. There was an amazing selection of glass tiles and beads to choose from, as well as snacks and drinks available, including alcohol, which added to the relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The only suggestion I would make is to do a little research beforehand on simple patterns and colour combinations you like, as the number of options can feel a bit overwhelming at first. Overall, it was a fantastic, creative experience and a wonderful activity to do as a couple or family. We all walked away with beautiful lamps and great memories, and I would highly recommend it.
  • 5/5 from Cato Miller, attended Jan 2026: We had a brilliant morning creating a Turkish lamp. Very welcoming atmosphere, great set up and teacher was well prepared and most helpful. Would highly recommend this class.
  • 5/5 from Lynn, attended Jan 2026: Heaps of fun, with creativity encouraged, and not limited by any organiser driven need to "get it done" in the two and a half hour session, (we did the Turkish lamp workshop). Having said that, the time flew by, as it always does when there is full engagement and concentration from participants.
  • 5/5 from Tricia Kingston, attended Jan 2026: Was such a fun experience. Highly recommend.
  • 5/5 from Tara Ellis, attended Jan 2026: Great class and great teacher who is always very personable. Easy to book.
  • 3/5 from Kaitlyn Cox, attended Jan 2026: Unfortunately there wasn’t enough engagement from the presenter. I also didn’t find her very approachable as she was doing her mosaic lamp instead of interacting enough throughout the session.
  • 5/5 from Ashleigh Sing, attended Nov 2025: First time doing this class as a group of four and we had the best time! Rachelle & Jamie were very helpful and instructive. Very relaxed and friendly environment. Now to book the next class!
  • 5/5 from Kirsten Rose, attended Nov 2025: Was a great experience, teacher was very informative and helped when unsure what to do next, would highly recommend the Turkish Lamp class!!
  • 5/5 from Tammy Kurek, attended Nov 2025: Such a fun class with plenty of supplies. Had a really enjoyable time, will look at doing another class.
  • 5/5 from Tia Jones, attended Oct 2025: The Turkish Mosaic Lamp class at Collective Obsessions was so much fun! I took my mum for her birthday and we both absolutely loved it. It was such value for money. Our teacher was so warm, informative and availiable for help and inspiration. We will definitely be back!

Collective Obsessions is a creative studio and community space in Balcatta, Perth, designed for people who want to try new things, make cool stuff, and surprise themselves. We're also proud 3 x Time SBA Award winners!
What started as a love of getting hands-on with creative mediums has grown into a colourful, welcoming studio offering workshops, open studio sessions, memberships and private events. We work across a range of mediums including resin, alcohol inks, water marbling, acrylic pouring, textured art and so much more.
More than anything, Collective Obsessions is about people. Our workshops are filled with first-timers, returning guests, and our beautiful creative tribe who make the studio feel like home.
If you’ve ever said “I’m not creative”, you’re exactly who we’re for.
We’re on a mission to…
Make creativity feel accessible, fun and safe.
We believe creativity isn’t about talent or experience - it’s about giving yourself permission to play.
Our mission is to create a space where people can slow down, switch off their busy brains, connect with others, and feel proud of what they make.
Whether you’re joining us for a one-off workshop or becoming part of our creative tribe, we want you to leave feeling lighter than when you arrived.
Our top tips for beginners is…
Don’t overthink it - just start.
You don’t need any experience, skills or artistic background. We’ll teach you the techniques, guide you step-by-step, and then encourage you to make it your own. The best pieces often come from experimenting, happy accidents and trusting your instincts.
There is no “right way” to create here.
You’ll leave our workshop feeling…
Proud, relaxed and slightly obsessed.
Most people walk in feeling unsure and walk out buzzing - with something beautiful in their hands and a new appreciation for their own creativity. Many leave already planning what they want to try next.

Meet Mean Boss – aka Jamie
Co-Founder & Artist
Affectionately known as Mean Boss (don’t be fooled - he’s a big softie), Jamie is drawn to the quirky, the unexpected, and the beautifully imperfect.
With roots in photography and a deep respect for nature and traditional craftsmanship, Jamie’s creative journey led him into timber, then expanded into charcoal, resin, acrylics, ink, graphite, and beyond. Always experimenting, always pushing boundaries, and often breaking things along the way (the okay kind).
Back in the studio, Jamie brings relaxed vibes, big ideas, and a little mischief to everything he creates.
That’s our story and we THANK you for reading and taking an interest.
