Engage the Senses

Craft writing that resonates beyond the page by engaging the five senses.

Wield the power of language

Wield the Power of Language

Words are not neutral. Learn to recognise and use connotative language to push the boundaries of language.

Be specific

Be Specific

Use concrete imagery to paint clear scenes, moving away from vague abstract expression.

Words are not neutral. Words and objects have connotations that, when used strategically, can speak volumes. Join Lisa Collyer to enhance your writing with memorable images that speak to each other in new and surprising ways.
In this workshop, you will work with language that evokes the senses to create scenes that resonate beyond the page. You will look at the way in which words are not neutral and how to wield the power of words by drawing on connotative language. Move from vague abstract language to specific concrete examples to make your writing more vivid to the reader.
By the end, you'll have fun with language, pushing words to their limits, experimenting and spicing up your writing.
