Andrew, an avid re-enactor and LARPer, is the proprietor of Western Leathercraft. With a lifelong passion for art, primarily illustration, Andrew’s interest in leathercraft began after joining a local Perth medieval club (The Society for Creative Anachronism) in 1989. He moved beyond making leather belts and decorative armour when in 2010 he bought the craft shop, Western Leathercraft, which was then based in East Perth.
Andrew began hand-crafting leather items to sell in the shop and at market stalls, trading skills with a wide range of local leather crafters, and attending conferences to improve his skills. Teaching Leathercraft since 2017, he is currently completing a Master of Teaching at Murdoch University.

Andrew was very knowledgeable and accomodating, helping me to adjust my belt to my liking. Would recommend both belt making class and Andrew as a teacher.

Andrew again provided the class of 5 with a great knowledge base as well as techniques. The class included all of the necessary materials and tools to complete the project in the time frame. He also provided a hand that enabled us to revise what we had done and the tools that we used.

Had a lovely morning on the beginners leather work course. Andrew is very knowledgeable and kept it interesting. The venue was very busy with other activity going on and maybe not ideal on that day.

Teacher explained with great knowledge. Also providing a step by step guide.
The venue was great opened up my eyes to what was available to us as a member. The only downside is the area was a little hard to find.

Andrew was very methodical in his explanations and demonstrations of the tools.
The class progressed (for me) at a good pace and I was able to keep up with each step of the project. A great way to discover leather craft for beginners (like me).

The teacher was so smart and interesting to talk to. Easy going. He went at my pace which was interesting. Told me about the leather. The tools. He has so many great tools boxes and boxes full. I really enjoyed this class.

Andrew was friendly with plenty of leathercrafting wisdom!
For someone who doesn't delve into crafts much, I found the way Andrew explained and demonstrated his techniques to be simple and easy to understand.
I'm pretty happy with the pieces I took home and I can't wait to come back to learn more about leathercrafting

This was a great workshop! Really accessible and I learned how to prepare, cut, bevel, stamp and emboss a design on leather. It was great fun and I learned a lot I took home all three stages of my learning and I just adore the final product that will end up on one of my costume pieces! Looking forward to workshop 3 - Stitching and Dying!

Absolutely fabulous! Teacher Andrew, was very pleasing and informative. All tools and materials were provided and Andrew had great knowledge to give, so we could continue our crafting beyond the class. Learnt a lot about using the tools and different techniques to get certain looks to the designs. Well explained with a very friendly, knowledgeable teacher. All tools and handouts supplied. Definitely recommend for the beginner. Excellent class, will go to the next one!

I attended this workshop this morning with my dad, and we had such a great time! Andrew is absolutely lovely and a great teacher. Everything is supplied, and the materials are high quality. I'm definitely inspired to give leather craft a go as a regular hobby! Thanks, Andrew!

My son loved this class. He has been proudly showing his wristband to all the relatives, and pointing out all the bits he did. (Andrew was obviously great at helping him with some of the harder bits, while still leaving him feeling that he’d made it himself, too.) and he wants to learn more leatherwork, which is always a good indication of a great beginner class! :-)

This was a great workshop! You don't need to take anything as everything is supplied. The teacher was fantastic, patient, clear and had all the tools, equipment and materials available, organised and well maintained. You go through the whole process completely supported and find out all sorts of interesting things about leatherworking and you end up with a 100% comlete, rather swanky wrist cuff, ready to wear! We had a great group of people in our class and it was great fun with lots of laughter.
