Learn the skills that make your clothes work for you! If you’ve completed Level 1 at Studio Thimbles and you’re ready to take your sewing skills into the real world, this course is your next step.
Our 5-week Basic Alterations Course is designed for confident beginners who want to stop outsourcing simple fixes and start altering their own clothes with confidence. From hemming and tapering to working with stretch fabrics and waist adjustments, you’ll learn practical, repeatable techniques you can use again and again.
This is not custom tailoring — it’s about mastering the most common, most useful clothing alterations in a supportive, small-group studio environment.
Who this Alteration Course is for:
You’re a Studio Thimbles Level 1 graduate
You can confidently use a sewing machine
You always need pants hemmed or taken in
Alterations feel intimidating, but you want to try
You want to stop paying for simple fixes
You want your clothes to sit better and feel more wearable
This alteration course is not suitable for complete beginners. If you’re brand new to sewing, we recommend starting with our Level 1 Course for Beginners.

Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 3 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we may cancel the session; if that happens, we'll inform you and let you choose between a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.
What you'll get
What will you learn? Over five weeks, you’ll build confidence with real garments, real fabrics, and real-life alteration scenarios.
You’ll learn how to:
Hem garments neatly and professionally
Taper and reshape pant legs for a better silhouette
Work confidently with stretch fabrics like T-shirts
Take in waists on woven garments without disrupting fit
Troubleshoot common issues like wavy hems and skipped stitches
All techniques are taught step-by-step, with plenty of hands-on practice.
Knowledge required
This alteration course is not suitable for complete beginners. You need to have basic knowledge of sewing machine operation.
What to bring
We supply everything you need, including sewing machines, materials, and real garments to practice, so you don’t need to invest in expensive equipment upfront. Bring nothing but a desire to learn, an open mind, and a positive attitude :)

My name is Olga, I am founder of Studio Thimbles where I combine my 2 greatest passions – sewing and connecting with people through teaching and creating together! I have more than 20000 hours of sewing under my belt. With such experience now I teach kids and adults beginner’s sewing skills, magic of creating for yourself from raw piece of fabric.
Sewing for me is about taking time out for myself, leaving busy routine behind me. As I am sewing and creating, I’ll bring awareness to the present moment that's grounding and peaceful. Sewing is like a meditation and a therapy for me. I have passion for teaching and passing on every bit of my knowledge, my tips and secrets. Come join me for beginner sewing workshop and an amazing experience!
My studio is in Subiaco on Hay street and just minutes walk from train station.
