Blender Studios' Freehand Workshop offers an exclusive chance to learn a variety of spray-painting techniques from a renowned street artist right here at the famous Blender Studios. The workshop will start with an artist talk from your instructor and street art demonstration where they will cover a range of different can skills to get you started on your spray-painting journey.
A spraypaint can is a challenging tool in comparison to other paint mediums and our artist is here to guide you through all the insider tricks of the trade. After a few practice activities where you will experiment with different techniques in our dedicated spraypainting venue, you will then head back to the classroom for a short sketching and design session.
Armed with your design, we will then head back outside to create our final masterpiece for the day.

  • 5/5 from Phuong Ngo, attended Apr 2026: Louis is so knowledgeable and talented, honestly one of the best instructors in this medium you'll come across. The class is really well structured and you get time to practice and experiment with spray painting before starting on your final painting. He takes you through different styles and techniques with a demo painting and gives really useful tips too For the final painting you'll have guidance on transferring your sketch onto the canvas and receive hands on support start to finish. Such a fun class, would 100% recommend!
  • 5/5 from Toni Courtney, attended Apr 2026: We thoroughly enjoyed this practical 'hands on' workshop and the opportunity to create our own design. The instruction was basic, clear and just right for a beginner class. With the outcome of 'having a go'....this was a fun way to do something different. Would recommend.
  • 5/5 from Madeleine Baldacchino, attended Apr 2026: I got this as a birthday gift and we had SO much fun! The teacher, (I believe his name was Matt), was very helpful and made sure we all left with a piece of art that we really liked. I would definitely recommend this workshop to do with friends or by yourself.

  • 5/5 from Georgia Budden, attended Jun 2025: This was such a great beginner class! Awesome value and really helpful for getting started with a spray can, would definitely be keen to go back for more classes.
  • 5/5 from Rhiannon Sellers-Boyle, attended Apr 2025: Excellent
  • 5/5 from Lourdes Llorente, attended Mar 2025: Short and sweet: Matt gave an intro about the history of street art, then a practical intro on spray painting: how to get different lines effects, and a demo on a MDF board showing how to sketch, colour and outline. He then helped us prepare our sketches, advising on composition, etc. It was fun to then do our our artworks on our MDF boards. Matt was there for everyone that needed advice/help but also let us do our own thing otherwise. I learnt a fair bit and enjoyed the workshop!
  • 5/5 from Belinda Ellis, attended Dec 2024: Excellent! In Melbourne for Christmas and thought my husband would like to experience spray painting with a graffiti artist. He loved it. Thanks.
  • 5/5 from Steven Ivanusec, attended Oct 2024: Spray painting beginner class. Teacher was great and knowledgable and had real world experience. Venue was great. Food/refreshments were unnecessary. Learned beginner tips about spray painting. Thought it was very relevant. Thought it was cool that you could take home your own art work that would be touched up by the artist. The class was good value for money

  • 5/5 from Catherine Hammersley, attended Feb 2024: My daughter’s 16th birthday present and I wanted an experience gift that was great value and fun she loved it and was a great opportunity to broaden her art experience in this way as schools aren’t offering this platform. The workshop was led so well by talented experienced artists covering technique, it was laid back and fun. The venue was a great space and a fantastic intro into the art world. My girls want to come back. Great value. Awesome day
  • 5/5 from Elizabeth, attended Jul 2023: I highly recommend the spray painting for beginners class. Matt was an excellent teacher who was thorough and supportive. All the materials were supplied which was excellent, and the outcome of the short course of creating a simple artwork with spray paint covered lots of basic skills. I feel confident practising on my own now and would consider doing a more advanced class in the future. I particularly liked that the class was based out of Blender Studios in West Melbourne where the inspiration of all my favourite street artists was all around us as we were learning.
  • 5/5 from Justin Moyle, attended Jul 2023: The teacher was excellent! Helped us when we needed it and great demonstration. Also many years experience in the field. The venue is really interesting with lots of awesome art to look at. Good value. I learned some good principles for street art!

  • 5/5 from Vincent, attended May 2023: A really cool venue where the course happened, also with a lot of other art to get inspired from. The teacher was great, explained it really well, and made it very easy with well-defined steps - it felt like anyone can do this. The teacher really helped with making sure you'll end up going home with a cool good looking piece that could go on the wall.
  • 5/5 from Sandra Bronsvoort, attended May 2023: The teacher was very nice and knowledgeable. It was great to be able to learn techniques but combine that with enough space for creativity. The space is amazing and after the course we had the chance to walk through the studio and talk to various creators about their work.

  • 5/5 from Sherice Marks, attended Oct 2022: The course started with a tour of the studio. We then got a full explanation of the history of street art and graffiti. The teacher was excellent. The demonstration of the technique was thorough. We then practiced the spray painting techniques. All spray paint and equipment, including aprons, masks and gloves were provided. We then sketched our piece and then went on to work on the final art work. The teacher helped perfect our technique. It was a really fun experience. I spray painted a creeper for my Minecraft mad son.
