  • 5/5 from Vera Sergeev, attended Jul 2023: I had an amazing experience at the pot painting workshop with alcohol inks! It was a truly delightful and inspiring event. The workshop took place in a beautiful venue that was spacious, well-lit, and aesthetically pleasing. The atmosphere was inviting, creating the perfect environment for creativity and experimentation. The instructor was knowledgeable, creative, and passionate, and their friendly nature helped pass on their love for art to the participants. Painting with alcohol inks provided a unique and interesting process. You had the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the creative process and explore an endless array of colours. The inks could be mixed, blended, and manipulated to create beautiful abstract pictures on the pots. The technique of blowing on the paints to move them in different directions added an element of excitement and anticipation. One of the highlights was the versatility of the inks, even a single colour could produce a wide range of shades, resulting in stunning and unique designs. The workshop allowed you to experiment with the colours on a ceramic tile before moving on to painting two plant pots—a small one and a large one. Being able to take the pots home on the same day was a convenient touch, although you needed to seal them later. To enhance the overall experience, refreshments were served, adding to the happiness and enjoyment of the participants. The combination of the beautiful venue, music, creative atmosphere, and the opportunity to explore your own creativity made it an ideal way to spend a weekend or a holiday. You highly recommend this workshop to individuals who love to get creative, and it can even be enjoyed with school-aged kids. The pots created during the workshop could make excellent birthday or Christmas presents, adding a personal touch to gift-giving.

Collective Obsessions is a creative studio and community space in Balcatta, Perth, designed for people who want to try new things, make cool stuff, and surprise themselves. We're also proud 3 x Time SBA Award winners!
What started as a love of getting hands-on with creative mediums has grown into a colourful, welcoming studio offering workshops, open studio sessions, memberships and private events. We work across a range of mediums including resin, alcohol inks, water marbling, acrylic pouring, textured art and so much more.
More than anything, Collective Obsessions is about people. Our workshops are filled with first-timers, returning guests, and our beautiful creative tribe who make the studio feel like home.
If you’ve ever said “I’m not creative”, you’re exactly who we’re for.
We’re on a mission to…
Make creativity feel accessible, fun and safe.
We believe creativity isn’t about talent or experience - it’s about giving yourself permission to play.
Our mission is to create a space where people can slow down, switch off their busy brains, connect with others, and feel proud of what they make.
Whether you’re joining us for a one-off workshop or becoming part of our creative tribe, we want you to leave feeling lighter than when you arrived.
Our top tips for beginners is…
Don’t overthink it - just start.
You don’t need any experience, skills or artistic background. We’ll teach you the techniques, guide you step-by-step, and then encourage you to make it your own. The best pieces often come from experimenting, happy accidents and trusting your instincts.
There is no “right way” to create here.
You’ll leave our workshop feeling…
Proud, relaxed and slightly obsessed.
Most people walk in feeling unsure and walk out buzzing - with something beautiful in their hands and a new appreciation for their own creativity. Many leave already planning what they want to try next.

Meet Mean Boss – aka Jamie
Co-Founder & Artist
Affectionately known as Mean Boss (don’t be fooled - he’s a big softie), Jamie is drawn to the quirky, the unexpected, and the beautifully imperfect.
With roots in photography and a deep respect for nature and traditional craftsmanship, Jamie’s creative journey led him into timber, then expanded into charcoal, resin, acrylics, ink, graphite, and beyond. Always experimenting, always pushing boundaries, and often breaking things along the way (the okay kind).
Back in the studio, Jamie brings relaxed vibes, big ideas, and a little mischief to everything he creates.
That’s our story and we THANK you for reading and taking an interest.
