  • 5/5 from Samantha Sun, attended Jan 2026: My husband and I recently attended a gin-making class at Bass & Flinders Distillery, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. Our host, Nina, was wonderful—knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely passionate. She guided us through the history of gin from its origins to modern-day production, explaining the distillation process and educating us on the different botanicals used along the way. The highlight was creating our own personalised gin, with plenty of hands-on time and guidance. We even walked away with our own labelled 500ml bottle, which was such a special touch. We also had the chance to sample their impressive range of gins, spirits, brandy, and whisky, all of which were exceptional. This was perfectly complemented by a beautiful cheese platter featuring local cheeses from The Boatshed Cheese, making the tasting experience even more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this experience—it was fun, highly educational, and incredibly memorable. A perfect activity for gin lovers or anyone looking for a unique and enjoyable experience.
  • 5/5 from John O Brien, attended Dec 2025: We had a fantastic time today at the gin tasting, The Host lady was fantastic and very informative, we also had a beautiful cheese platter at the end which was a nice surprise! Would highly recommend, The gin was also very nice and plentiful!
  • 5/5 from Vickie Beamish, attended Oct 2025: Not sure what I was expecting but this experience was more than I hoped for. So informative, gin tastings were plentiful as was the cheese board. Plus I’ve enjoyed the gin at home that I created. Definitely recommend
  • 5/5 from Ruth Henwood, attended Sep 2025: This was a gift to my husband, we both love gin and even more so after hearing about its checked and dark history! Our teacher was so knowledgable and so interesting, I was spellbound. We tasted ALOT of gin and then mixed our own batch, with a really thorogh appreciateion of the botanicals used and hown they compliment one another we both created the Gin of our Dreams. Darn should have used that for the label! Highly recommend
  • 5/5 from Rachel Roper, attended May 2025: We had this bought as a gift and it was great! Holly was very knowledgeable, the class was easy to follow and fun, we came home with delicious gin and they served great snacks!
  • 5/5 from John Tolmie, attended Jan 2025: What agreat day. Teacher was very informative about all things gin from its origin to modern day gin making. Heaps of variety of flavours to experiment with with some helpfull tips from the teacher. We had an awesome time.
  • 5/5 from Fiona Sarris, attended Jan 2025: I bought this as a gift for my hubby. I’m not a gin drinker at all. Saying that, I still had fun, made an awesome bottle of take home gin and met some great people. I liked that the class was small (about 12) and our instructor Kim was so knowledgeable about the process and history of gin making. This is a great idea for anyone looking for something different, especially those that are keen on gin.
  • 5/5 from Nick Mitchell, attended May 2024: Great class, extremely knowledgeable teacher, great stories and information about the history of Gin and the history of the store itself. Great value. Really pleased with my creation, thankyou Yvette for a great day :)

  • 5/5 from Adam Hardy, attended May 2023: This class was a lot of fun. Jake the teacher gave a good history of gin making and the ingredients that go into it as a base product. We then using a selection of botanicals experimented ourselves and made up a few mixtures for a new gin based on our taste preferences. At the end we ate a cheese platter and some gin tasting of the distillery while they prepared a bottle of gin for each of us based on our preferred mix. All in all it was a lot of fun and hit the right mark between Jake giving us some history and us being able to experiment.
  • 5/5 from Cass McLennan, attended Apr 2023: Jake was friendly and knowledgeable. It was a great afternoon. Would recommend to friends. Thanks

The venue is lovely and it was nice staying afterwards for a cocktail and some snacks. I loved that we were able to tailor a gin to our own taste, name it and reorder whenever we like. Overall a great session!
  • 5/5 from Erin Davey, attended Mar 2022: Really great session! The teacher was informative about gin history and the distilleries' specific specialities and it was fun to mix and match to get a unique gin of our own.
  • 5/5 from Emma Morris, attended Jan 2022: I had quite an enjoyable afternoon, and now I have a delicious bottle of gin! If you’re booking on a Sunday be aware that the class is actually 11-1, they do send an email to advise of this but it went to my junk mail, so we were late. The only piece of constructive criticism I have is that the cheese and biscuits could have been served earlier, rather than at the end, as they could have helped break up the different flavours of botanicals
  • 5/5 from Sarah McConchie, attended Jul 2021: Adrian took us through the history of gin and its origins, and it's resurgence in popularity in the last 15 years. We tasted and blended with his help to make our own unique gin, bottled for our enjoyment in the next day or so; luckily the blend has been saved for future reblending, because mine was pretty delicious
  • 5/5 from Matilda Brewster, attended Jul 2021: With a teeny negroni on arrival this wonderful experience couldn’t start any better! Our host and gin expert Angelica was full of knowledge about gin and it’s history. We tasted various botanicals and each concocted a masterpiece of our own! This experience was meant to go for 2 hours but they just kept giving us more and more tastings and cheese plates until 2.5 nearly 3 hours later we were happy, tipsy, full of new facts about gin and went back to our accommodation with a 500ml bottle of our own blend! Such a perfect experience and Angelica was the perfect host! Many thanks!

Bass and Flinders Distillery was founded in 2009 on the Mornington Peninsula with a passion for adventure and a desire to create a range of high quality, artisanal gins brandies and liqueurs, that truly reflect our home and heritage.
Proudly the first distillery on the Mornington Peninsula, our original inspiration was drawn from a love of classic brandies produced in France. Using many of the same traditional production techniques, we set out to produce a premium aged spirit, our Ochre brandy, that proves just how good Australian brandy can be. Our location in the wine growing region of the Mornington Peninsula provided the perfect setting to pursue our dream.
Drawing inspiration from our coastal home where the sea meets the wine-growing hinterland, we handcraft our grape-based eau de vie spirit right here at the distillery, using traditional methods from the Charente region of France. Victorian wine specially crafted to our desired flavour profile is double distilled in small batches using a gas-fired alembic pot still - a method designed to celebrate the flavour and viscosity provided by the grapes. This is our definition of quality.
We are on a constant journey of discovery, developing new styles of gins, brandies and liqueurs. We are always scouting for unique, native botanicals that capture the essence of our local flora and define our true sense of place.
We are the ‘Spirit of the Mornington Peninsula’.
