Beginners Hand Building Clay Workshop

Hand build with clay in our welcoming Melbourne pottery studio

2 hours Class size 1 to 8 guests

  $60 - $90 ($60 for Kids; $80 for Concession / First Nations; $90 for Adult) (Afterpay available)

Curious about crafting with clay? Step into our cosy studio in Melbourne for the perfect beginner-friendly experience hand building and sculpting under the gentle guidance of an experienced ceramicist.
In this class, you will explore form and surface through basic hand building and sculpting techniques, such as pinch construction, coil-building, slab building and various decorative methods.
Learn about the different stages of clay, and enjoy the process from transforming a ball of clay into your own unique ceramic piece to take home.
Whether you're looking for hens party ideas or date ideas in Melbourne, come along to our hand building pottery workshop!
We will glaze and fire your pieces for you; and you can choose out of our 4 studio glazes at the end of the class (ivory white, eucalyptus green, oceanic blue or floating orange). If you are interested in a glazing workshop, where you can paint/decorate pots yourself, please let us know at the end of class and we will give you a 20% discount code to book an additional ceramic painting session.
Your pieces will be ready to pick up within 2 - 3 weeks or posted to you with a small fee.
Please note that clay is prone to shrinking by 10% in the kiln, and that occasionally pots do explode/crack in the kiln. Unfortunately we do not offer refunds for pots that have exploded or cracked in the kiln firing process as this is beyond our control.
If you are requesting a private class please note these incur a $30 per person fee.
Public dates for this class require at least 2 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we'll cancel the class; in this case we'll inform you and allow you to get a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.'

  • 5/5 from Dojiok Dojiok, attended Oct 2025: Was a Gift for my girlfriend a hand building clay workshop and it went great. Our teacher was so helpful and knowledgeable teaching all the basic of clay creation and being delightful to be in her class. Very great venue had a calm and soothing environment that encouraged exploration and experimentation of artistic ideas as a beginner and the teacher helping to direct you on your path. Would definitely recommend for anyone who is looking for a new fun and creative activity to do as a gift or just getting out there on your art journey.
  • 5/5 from Madeleine Yue, attended Oct 2025: Our teacher was lovely, and left us to be creative with the items we were building while coming around to offer guidance and instructions when needed. We also opted for the snacks and drinks which were delicious and a great break in between. A super fun activity, highly recommend.

  • 5/5 from Julie Song, attended Sep 2025: The class was amazing and relaxing, and doing it with your uni bestie definitely made the class more enjoyable. Our instructor Tig was so friendly, enthusiastic, energetic, and helpful with our projects. The class had only 6 people so everything felt personal and closer to you.
