arrow_right_alt arrow_downwardThis workshop is inspired by the Chinese botanical art form of penjing, which roughly translates to ‘scenery in a pot’. Traditionally, penjing references natural Chinese landscapes to recreate them in a miniature potted form.
This workshop is an accessible interpretation of this ancient craft, specifically reworked for a contemporary urban lifestyle.
In this hands-on beginner workshop, you’ll learn the basics of designing and planting a small-scale landscape using living plants, moss, rocks, and miniature features. Rather than simply creating a potted plant, you’ll be creating a tiny world with its own sense of place, scale, and story.
You’ll start with a bonsai-style pot and select from a collection of baby plants, including ferns and other miniature-friendly varieties. From there, you’ll build your landscape layer by layer with potting mix, pebbles, moss, and feature rocks, learning how to arrange your plants to create depth, balance, and a natural-looking composition.
Then comes the really fun part: adding tiny details.Â
Choose from or make miniature buildings, bridges, animals, and other little features to give your landscape its own character and story. Perhaps you’ll create a mossy mountain forest, a tranquil rock garden, a peaceful woodland village, or a charming microcosm of your own design.
- Everything you need is provided, including your pot, plants, growing materials, moss, rocks, a selection of miniature features, and polymer clay to create your own, as well as care instructions for your new little landscape to thrive
- Leave with a tiny world of your own
