School Holiday Solar Printing Workshop - the Art of Cyanotype

Learn to use the sun to create fun photographic prints through cyanotype

6 to 15 years     1.5 hours Class size 6 to 10 guests       $60 (PayPal Pay in 4 available)

In this engaging school holiday workshop for children 6 years and up, you will explore the fascinating art of cyanotype printing. Using the power of the sun, you'll create unique 'blue' prints with your favourite pictures or patterns that you can take home with you.
Don't worry if you're new to this activity - it's safe, fun and educational, perfect for beginners.
During the workshop, you will:
  • Learn how to create the sun-sensitive paper
  • Choose objects, flowers or leaves to design your prints and place them on the paper
  • Move them into the sunlight and watch in amazement as the sun magically transforms the paper into vibrant blue prints
  • Rinse and dry your prints, getting them ready to take home
  • Optionally, do one of your prints on a card
This experience blends science and creativity, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for children. All materials will be provided, and you'll get to take home 6 unique prints.
Parents and carers are welcome stay and observe or help your child during the workshop - although it's not required unless your child needs individualised support. Safety is a priority, and Julie, the instructor, has the necessary qualifications, checks and experience to ensure a safe and professional setting. You can feel at ease knowing that Julie holds a Working with Children Check and NDIS screening check.
The workshop is not just about learning new techniques but also about sparking imagination, building confidence, and fostering new friendships. Your child will be proud of their creations and the memories made during this printing art class in Melbourne.
What you'll get
Participants are provided with all supplies provided including: paper (pre painted with the cyanotype chemicals - although we will demonstrate how that is done too); some potential objects to use (but feel free to bring your own objects or leaves etc); a card and envelope to create a card with one of the prints. We also have gloves and plastic aprons available.
