Arrive, Relax and Settle In

Everything is ready for you: canvas, paints, mediums and tools. Just arrive and get comfortable. Enjoy a drink, pop on your apron and gloves, and get your canvases ready.

Watch the cells appear (with no oil)

Watch the Cells Appear (with No Oil)

Your tutor will demonstrate the first of three styles of fluid art - the 'Swipe' and talk you through different options. Practice swiping on a shared canvas and experience the magic first hand!
Then it is your turn to create your own 'swipe' designs, using paint already mixed and ready.

Prepare your paints

Prepare Your Paints

Choose four colours from a wide range of acrylic paints available and learn to mix them to the right consistency, with the right ingredients for your next two paintings.

Observe the patterns

Observe the Patterns

After your tutor demonstates the 'ring pour' technique and how to create great patterns in your art; you will layer a cup with the coloured paint mixes you have made and have fun pouring the paint onto the canvas in a circular pattern. You wont believe the results.

Master the cells

Master the Cells

After a break for some well deserved refreshments, you will add a few drops of silicone oil to the remaining paint and then layer it in three cups. Learn to do a 'flip cup', and watch the cells emerge with rings of colour. Your tutor will help you use heat to bring out more cells if you wish, before and/or after you move the paint to cover the canvas.

Step back and admire

Step Back and Admire

Pause, reflect and share the experience with others.
Admire the three very different styles of fluid art and the beauty you have created.

Stay inspired after class

Stay Inspired After Class

You’ll receive a follow-up email and handouts with instructions and information about each of the three styles, along with easy instructions for collecting your artwork once it’s dry.
The learning doesn’t stop when the class ends.

Take home your finished artwork

Take Home Your Finished Artwork

Once fully dry (it usually takes 2-3 days), return to collect your art - or arrange postage if needed.
Take home not just three paintings, but a reminder of your creativity and what you are capable of.

Looking to expand your creative skills and fluid art repertoire? Join Live For Art's Super Three in One workshop, a fantastic fluid art class in Melbourne, where you will skyrocket your learning by exploring three different fluid art techniques.
In this special ‘in-depth’ three and a half hour experience, you will learn all the basics of fluid art and dive into three different techniques:
  • Swipe – where you move thin paint over other paint to create unique small cells and lacing.
  • Ring Pour – where you layer paint in a cup and pour onto the canvas in a circular motion, creating amazing lines and effects.
  • Cells with silicone oil – where added silicone oil into the paint, which is layered in a cup and then ‘flipped’, creates cells with rings of colour.
Throughout the workshop, you will paint three stunning artworks using each technique, equivalent to attending three separate classes in the convenience of one afternoon. This is perfect for those who may need to travel to attend or are eager to dive right in.
Under the guidance of industry expert Julie, you will learn about paint consistency (the key to successful fluid art), pouring techniques, colour selection, and more. All instruction, support, and materials are supplied.
