  • 5/5 from Rodney Cheal, attended Oct 2025: I enjoyed cooking a tasty korean lunch. The cook was fun, gave clear instructions and helped as we followed his instructions. We prepared kimchi and a cucumber side dish, then a beef stew, tteokbokki and fried chicken. We learnt the secrets to cooking it and then sat down to a very filling lunch. Dont eat breakfast, and jyst turn up. Everything is supplied, including a goid drink and some laughs. A great time. Thanks.

He gave us a lot of information about the types of ingredients we used without overwhelming us. The food we cooked was FANTASTIC! We ended up with lots of leftovers to take home and share with the family as well.

  • 5/5 from Mirjana Gligorova, attended Jun 2024: What a great class! We had the best teacher, Anan, who is very passionate, very talented, well organised and one of the greatest chefs I have ever come across. His patience and willingness to help everyone to create a great dish is beyond words. The choice of food on the menu that we cooked today was great, as well as the choice of great fresh delicious ingredients. The kitchen is very clean, spacious and very well organised. We all cooked, ate, and took home very delicious traditional Korean meals. I have been to few other cooking classes at Otao Kitchen, and with it's variety of cooking classes I believe it's by far the best cooking school in Melbourne. Chef Anan's enthusiasm and passion about cooking is contagious. He makes everything to look simple and easy. When we cook under his instructions we all feel like experienced chefs. Thank you Otao Kitchen for this great experience!
  • 5/5 from Paul Hewer, attended Jun 2024: Was a 2023 Christmas present and really enjoyed the class. Teacher was helpful with questions and advice.
  • 5/5 from Jenny Chan, attended Mar 2024: Otao’s organisation of everything from the ingredients, utensils, hygiene, instructions, drinks and cooking facilities is of a high standard. I’m new to Korean food so this course was a good introduction to the distinct flavours found in Korean dishes. I particularly liked the KFC Korean fried chicken and Korean beef hangover stew. Some of us were impressed by the sharpness of the chopping knife, so we were able to purchase them new from Otao. The OTAO chopping knife is a handy souvenir I recommend you take home :-p
  • 5/5 from Melita Prideaux, attended Nov 2023: Teacher was great, he was very helpful, friendly and funny! Amazing variety of dishes to learn and they were all delicious to eat.
  • 5/5 from Linda Linmeiers, attended Jul 2021: Great value for money and was enjoyable and fun. Chef Dylan was very knowledgeable and patient. Food was awesome and the group participating were lovely. I can definitely recommend should you wish to learn Korean cooking or just a fun night out.

ABOUT US
Otao kitchen is a cooking school and event space with a mission for people to come together to cook, connect, celebrate. We believe cooking and eating should be an experience, not just a meal. We created Otao kitchen as an extension of our passions to cook, share and inspire.
EXPERT IN COOKING CLASSES
Otao kitchen was launched in Melbourne, Australia in July 2014, with the goal of celebrating the rich and varied cooking experiences of Melbourne’s immigrant multicultural communities. Its founder, Chef Ha Nguyen, originally from Hanoi shares his passion for food, instructing customers in the exotic diaspora of Asian and around the world cuisine.
WHAT WE DO BEST?
Today our guests can get inspired by cooking with our local and international chefs, listen to their cooking and travel experiences in Asia and around the world and bring some cooking and cultural tips and tricks home. With the nods at the diversity of communities within Melbourne, Otao kitchen features an array of global food experiences from Indian to Japan to Mexico and more.
In 2020 with the challenge of global Covid 19 pandemic, we set out to capture the curriculum of our hands-cooking classes and deliver it online to home cooks in Australia and across the world to guide you to cooking success and better health.
