  $250 - $350 ($350 per guest when you book for 1 guest, $275/guest for 2 guests, $250/guest for 3+ guests) (Afterpay & PayPal Pay in 4 available)

Step outside traditional weaving and explore the creative potential of copper and stainless-steel wires!
In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of weaving on a frame loom using soft craft wires, which can also be combined with yarns for added texture and detail. You’ll be guided through the process of finishing and removing your weaving from the frame, then shaping it into a decorative object using simple tools.
The weaving process is broken down into simple, approachable steps, so complete beginners are very welcome. At the same time, participants with weaving experience will have the freedom to explore more individual approaches, with guidance tailored to each person rather than a one-size-fits-all method. Best of all, there are no rushed or unfinished projects - everyone leaves with a completed woven object to take home.
Zsofia Samu is a professional textile artist specialising in wire weaving and has been creating and exhibiting sculptural woven artworks for more than 15 years. She encourages participants to develop their own style by experimenting with different coloured wires and weaving techniques.
To ensure personalised guidance, classes are kept intentionally small, with a maximum of four participants. Held in her light-filled home studio, the workshop offers an intimate and immersive creative experience.
What you will learn:
  • How to prepare the weaving frame and apply basic weaving techniques
  • How to create texture, density, and transparency using coloured wire combined with materials such as embroidery thread, specialty yarns, and even text
  • How to shape your weaving into a small sculptural object, such as a bowl, leaf, or abstract form
  • Tips and tricks, and how to correct common weaving mistakes
By the end of the class, you will have created a unique woven artwork to take home.

I am a passionate and highly skilled textile/visual artist with nearly 20 years of experience in weaving and art making.
I have a master’s degree in woven textile design, and I have been a practising studio artist since 2005. I have frequently exhibited in Australia and overseas, as well as worked on large-scale public art and socially engaged art projects. I work from my home studio, and I sell my works at art galleries and on my online shop. I draw inspiration from the wilderness, the human condition, and my Hungarian cultural heritage. I specialise in loom and off-loom weaving using alternative and recycled materials to create 2- and 3-dimensional mixed-media artworks.
After gaining experience through private tutoring, I opened my home studio in 2023 for group classes. I’m excited to share my skills and knowledge in giving the ancient technique of weaving a contemporary application.
