Our weekly Funkin Dance classes run three times per week: Tuesday and Thursday nights, as well as Saturday mornings.
Our Tuesday and Thursday night classes kick off at 6.30 pm, and our Saturday morning classes kick off at 9.30am for an hour of fun, movement, and music!
We turn the lights off and disco lights on, creating an upbeat, feel-good atmosphere where we make sure you feel welcome. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or stepping into class for the first time, our sessions are judgement-free and open to all fitness levels.
We believe everyone deserves to feel the joy of dancing to awesome music while getting a great workout at your own pace. There is no right or wrong here, just awesome energy, smiles, and movement.
We pride ourselves on creating a friendly, supportive community where you can let go, be yourself, and forget about the outside world for a bit.

What you'll get

FAQ

What should I wear?
We suggest comfortable clothing and shoes to dance in (closed toe footwear ie: street shoes or trainers) that will let your inner Beyonce out!
What should I bring?
Water bottle and a towel in case you break a sweat.
I have no dancing experience, can I still join?
We are here for you! Every choreography is broken down into smaller parts that generally repeat within the song. Coming regularly to classes will add to your learning of a choreography and getting familiar with the songs. You don't need experience to come to our classes, you can move at your own pace, have a sip of water and get back moving in your own time.
What are the benefits of Funkin Dance?
Funkin Dance is a fun and addictive dance class using different dance styles. Each choreography is designed to suit all fitness levels, with controlled movements that are safe and gentle on the joints. It helps lift your mood, increase your stamina and releases happy hormones throughout your body. It strengthens the heart - dancing for 60 minutes improves your cardio/aerobic fitness. Dancing improves your memory, balance, coordination, flexibility and mood. Coming to classes regularly will increase your sense of belonging as you will be welcomed into our little Funkshirlnal Fitness family.
I have a pre-existing injury/illness can I still come to a class?
YES! Shirley is a qualified PT with many years experience and will contact you prior to your first class so we can discuss in detail and answer any of your questions or concerns.

Hi my name is Shirley. For over 14 years I have followed my passion for dance and fitness and traveled overseas extensively to learn many different dance programs and styles. I can't wait to dance with you and share my love for dance and fun in our welcoming community.
I am passionate about brining people together through movement, music and lots of laughs. I have a background in PT, functional movement and a strong believe that movement is the best medicine for our mental health and wellbeing. I will bring lots of energy, and encourage everyone to just be themselves and have fun.
I love teaching because it gives me a chance to empower others. Whether you're a first-timer or a long-time dancer, I believe movement is for everyone. No judgement, just good vibes.
I am proud to have taught hundreds of students across Canberra, creating a safe space for people of all ages to get active and feel amazing.
Our Funkin Dance classes use many styles of music and each choreography is carefully designed to focus on musicality, lyrical expression and functional movement. I currently run weekly Funkin Dance classes in our Funkshirlnal Fitness Boutique studio 17 Walder Street Belconnen and teach classes Tuesday, Thursday evenings and each Saturday mornings during school terms. Our classes have become a vibrant community full of music, laughter and movement - and we are always ready to welcome new faces.
