Uncover the magic of bookbinding in this creative workshop focusing on the unique 'Secret Belgian Stitch'. Throughout this class, you'll discover the intricacies of this method and create a unique journal to take home, perfect for writing or sketching.
If the term 'Bookbinding Workshop - Secret Belgian Stitch' sounds daunting, fear not! This class is designed for beginners. The special technique of the 'Secret Belgian Stitch' allows for a spine that is attached without the need for adhesive. This allows the book to wrap all the way around the spine.
During the workshop, you will:
  • Tear and fold paper into signatures (64 pages)
  • Create covers using a selection of decorative papers
  • Tear Khadi paper for the inside covers
  • Sew the spine to the covers
  • Sew the signatures onto the covers
You'll receive guidance on each step of the process using the tools and materials provided. Held in a cosy setting at my home studio, this intimate workshop is limited to 5 participants, ensuring individualised attention and support.
At the end of the workshop, you'll walk away with a stunning handmade journal, crafted by you from start to finish.
If scheduled dates or times don't suit, I encourage requesting one that does. It's all about what works for you!

I have always felt the power of a blank page and throughout my life have continually collected blank books, journals, notebooks... So, It was natural for me to discover the world of handmade books. I have been making journals and Sketchbooks for 10 years now and it is still a huge passion for me. I have sold hundreds of books online and at Artisan Markets.
Using paper from around the world, and different techniques, old and new, I am dedicated to the idea these traditions should be passed on.
If you are like me, a paper lover, then I hope to help you find the satisfaction I feel when making a handmade book.
I work and teach out of my home studio in Byron Bay as well as other venues.
