Recent reviews of Beginner Photography Class in Perth

  • 5/5 from Rino Stephens, attended Jun 2026: My daughter attended this course while I was observing. It was most amazing thing to watch my daughter moving from 'Click and shoot' to shooting art and she is 12yo. Claire was so patient with her and explained for her to understand easily. Thank you so much. Below is my daughter's review with her own words. It was a great workshop '5 stars', she was very informative about all the camera settings as i had no idea, and it resulted in beautiful stunning photos, which i could not believe i had taken. If i had not went to this worksbop i would have still been stuck on manual mode and have taken normal pictures. With the help of her i was able to learn how to find better places other people wouldn't bother to take... the results were stunning. And now, whenever I'm going with my camera, i'm always going to bring a bottle of water with me.
  • 5/5 from Rebecca Fowler, attended May 2026: Claire was amazing! Very patient and knowledgeable.
  • 5/5 from Gary Heiden, attended May 2026: Clare was very patient and went through each step slowly and comprehensively. Much attention was paid to the idiosyncracies of each Cameron model that students had.
  • 5/5 from Paula Petchell, attended Apr 2026: Teacher was fantastic. Not prescriptive on this is good, but time to explore my camera, the conditions and to learn and discuss based on my experiences, my camera and my objectives.
  • 5/5 from Sara Isard, attended Mar 2026: This was my first photography class and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Claire was lovely, easy to talk to and happy to answer all my questions. It was great to learn that there was a take away e-book after the session with activities to try. If you are thinking about trying this course, I would recommend you give it a go
  • 5/5 from Julia Paton-Ryan, attended Mar 2026: Enjoyable and informative! Very suitable for beginners
  • 5/5 from William Brown, attended Jan 2026: The instructor was verry friendly and helpful with a broad knowledge base, was more than happy to answer all my questions and explain in detail in a manner that I could understand. I had a wonderful time and would recommend it for others.
  • 5/5 from Ashley Mounsey, attended Dec 2025: Absolutely loved this workshop, we sat down and went through all my setting and Claire explained how everything worked and what it does so well. We then went and walked around the city taking photos and practicing different compositions and settings. I feel so much more confident with my camera now and so grateful for the experience!
  • 5/5 from Stephen Nigli, attended Dec 2025: Claire was awesome. She quickly understood I knew very little about the camera and photography. The rest of the session was ‘adjusted’ to my capabilities and we had a lot of fun. Her knowledge, delivery and personality were perfect to set a beginner at ease. I loved the experience thoroughly.
  • 5/5 from Anita Keeley, attended Dec 2025: Totally recommend! Now I know more features of my new Panasonic TZ99 camera. Instead of point and shoot now know about aperture and shutter speed so to put into practice and can have better photos. Thank you Claire.
  • 5/5 from Luke Moore, attended Dec 2025: The tutorial/lesson with Claire was awazing. Im a complete novice to photography and Claire made me feel at ease learning and navigating my new camera. Learning from a manual for me is not the easiest thing so I’m so happy Claire was able to accomodate a hands on experience. The knowledge’ she had regarding every single option the camera can provide was so awsome. Now I have the confidence to go out and start experimenting with my new camera. I will definately be seeking Claire’s knowledge and experience in the future. Thank you Claire.
  • 5/5 from Karen Regan, attended Nov 2025: Claire was a fabulous teacher, was approachable and helpful.

  • 5/5 from Ciara Quinn, attended Nov 2025: absolutely loved this workshop! The instructor was really patient, knowledgeable, and explained everything in a way that was easy to understand. We covered different lighting setups, angles, and camera settings, and I learned so many practical tips I can use straight away. It was full of useful information without feeling overwhelming, and I walked away feeling much more confident with my camera. Highly recommend!
  • 5/5 from Sue Wright, attended Sep 2025: After receiving a ClassBento gift voucher for my birthday, I decided to do the Camera Basic Workshop! Claire was an amazing instructor - super helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. She broke down complex concepts into easy-to-understand bits, and the hands-on walk was the perfect way to put theory into practice. Highly recommend. 5 stars!
  • 5/5 from Dylan Tunhla, attended Aug 2025: Claire was absolutely amazing! Very informative, very patient, my mother and I have never used a proper camera in our lives and she took the time to explain everything in detail to us. The only regret is we haven’t got more time before our trip to get some more lessons in with her. Thanks for everything!

Claire Gilham-Martin is a Perth-based photographer, videographer, and educator whose work captures the quiet, cinematic beauty of Western Australia. Drawn to moody tones, reflective light, and the emotion of stillness, Claire transforms familiar coastal and urban landscapes into stories of atmosphere and place.
Through her photography workshops and mentoring, Claire empowers others to see with intention — guiding students from automatic settings to confident manual control. Her teaching style, often described as patient, clear, and inspiring, helps beginners and enthusiasts alike understand not just how to take a photo, but why it matters.
With a background in both photography and videography, Claire bridges artistry and technical mastery. Whether behind the lens or leading a hands-on class at Perth landmarks like Elizabeth Quay and Fremantle’s Round House, she shares the same passion: helping others discover the magic in light, mood, and moment.
When she’s not editing or teaching, Claire can usually be found exploring the outdoors with her two Welsh Pembroke Corgis, Speckle and Licorice — her loyal (and often muddy) photography assistants. They’ve wandered through more shoots than most people she knows, always reminding her to slow down, look closer, and find joy in the small details.
Claire’s landscape work continues to gain recognition on both national and international stages. Most recently, she reached the Top 101 in the International Landscape Awards 2025, placing Number 41 globally and having her image published in the official awards book. She also achieved Finalist status in the prestigious Landscape Capture Awards, with both of her submitted images. In 2024, Claire was awarded 3rd Place in the Australian & New Zealand Landscape Awards, her image was selected and published, a milestone that marked her continued progression in the competitive landscape photography world.
