Modern Kintsugi Workshop

Learn how to repair and transform broken ceramics using the Kintsugi method

2.5 hours Location Collingwood Class size 1 to 20 (public classes), 12 to 40   $90

Step into the enchanting realm of Kintsugi, the revered Japanese art of restoring broken pottery. At our workshop in Melbourne, we invite you to delve into this whimsical craft that celebrates the beauty of imperfection and the rich history behind every shattered piece.

During the workshop, we'll introduce you to the profound ethos of Kintsugi, where breakage and repair are honored as integral parts of an object's story, rather than flaws to conceal. Under our guidance, you'll learn the contemporary approach to Kintsugi using resin—a less allergenic, fast-drying, and cost-effective alternative to precious metals. With precision and care, you'll master the art of joining fragments, transforming them into breathtaking and truly unique ceramics.

In a world dominated by disposables and throw-away culture, our workshop offers a refreshing escape—a space where the act of repairing and reusing cherished pieces is celebrated. Experience the meditative joy of restoring pottery and revel in the celebration of resilience and sustainability.

Join us at Melbourne's premier Kintsugi workshop, where the art of pottery restoration comes to life. Reserve your spot now and embark on a journey of creativity, mindfulness, and the pursuit of everlasting beauty.

  • 5/5 from Angela Rojas, attended Jul 2025: I absolutely loved the class! Not only do you get a kit to take home, you also learn step by step process on how to bring to life your sentimental pieces… I loved loved loved it and Lynh was an amazing teacher! Highly recommend ️
  • 4/5 from Anastasia Sfakiotaki, attended Jun 2025: Materials were available Instruction were clear Ample time to practice The room is very cold
  • 3/5 from Merrilee McCoy, attended Jun 2025: The topic and outcomes of the workshop are good, but the format/ structure is a bit more freeform than I'd expected. We were given a brief demo of the steps (about 10min), then the rest of the time was self directed. I'd expected a little more framing about the history and practices, so we could really experience the kintsugi approach. After a while, it felt like I was just glueing a plate together solo, which I could do from home using a YouTube tutorial. Structuring the workshop to be more of a shared experience would've increased my enjoyment for the price paid.
  • 5/5 from Andrea Rutherford, attended May 2025: A great introduction class to this beautiful craft. Celebrating a birthday for my partner, this was the perfect activity to do together followed by a lunch. A great day doing something we had wanted to try for a while. Lovely teacher with careful instruction. A great space to meet other people too while you work. Got to bring some supplies home too so we can continue crafting at home.

  • 5/5 from Sally McAlpin, attended May 2025: I enjoyed this class, the teacher was clear and helpful and we had everything we needed to learn the new skill. Would recommend
  • 5/5 from Simone Edwards, attended Apr 2025: It was a great class! The space was lovely, and the style and content of the session were well-paced. We had so much fun. The technique of Modern Kintsugi is also so practical, and I feel like I can fix those sentimental broken pieces I have and make them even more beautiful! Helena was a great teacher!
  • 5/5 from Alex Murphy, attended Apr 2025: Class was brilliant and the teacher Helena was the best. She was so thorough in her explanation and super helpful throughout the class. Loved it!! Thank you
  • 5/5 from Wade Olesinski, attended Apr 2025: An all around great experience. The teacher was great very helpful. All in all a very fun and enjoyable experience
  • 1/5 from Sandra Robinson, attended Apr 2025: This course was conducted in Collingwood. This course was overcrowded (15 people) and simply demonstrated gluing a broken plate with enough gold coloured glue that it oozed out of the crack. The end result was a 'blobby' uneven repair that appeared to have been done by a kindergarten child and is an insult to this fine art..
  • 5/5 from Naida Quiapon, attended Mar 2025: The class was easy to follow and the teacher had created an inspiring space to learn.
  • 5/5 from Elaine Chan, attended Mar 2025: Love the class! It's easy to pick up as a beginner, and the instructor Helena was very helpful as well! Highly recommended :)
  • 5/5 from Christine Conlin, attended Mar 2025: I found this class (that had been gifted to me) to be a very pleasant and mindful experience. The atmosphere was relaxed as the space had been well prepared before the class arrived, the directions were clear, and the tutor was both very approachable and knowledgeable. The time quickly flew, and I enjoyed simply focusing on the task at hand. Many thanks & warm regards CC
  • 5/5 from Karen Cocks, attended Feb 2025: We had a fantastic time today, our teacher was very informative and most helpful, the atmosphere was very relaxed and I felt everyone was very happy with the class, I didn't feel overwhelmed at all, never rushed at all, I will definitely be looking at other classes, thankyou again for an amazing afternoon. Keep your choices simple and have fun.
  • 5/5 from Suzanne Zammit, attended Feb 2025: Lots of fun and frustration learning a new technique which required lots of patience. I'm looking forward to creating more beautiful mended pieces.
  • 4/5 from Marcus Lee, attended Feb 2025: Instructor was very knowledgeable and was able to guide through the class
  • 5/5 from Jackie Clough, attended Jan 2025: Modern Kintsugi class was a Christmas present for my husband. We both really enjoyed the class. Helena was lovely, knowledgeable and ready to help save us from our near disasters. We learnt enough to be able to give it a go at home. We took a stack of op shop purchases to learn on and came home with two completed plates each. Highly recommend. Fun afternoon.
  • 5/5 from Natasha Amendola, attended Jan 2025: To the point with instruction, which were very clear. Personally, I would have liked a little bit about the history of Kintsugi. It was lovely to be able to restore my grandmother's Japanese bowl, not pictured. The picture shows my practice pieces.

  • 5/5 from Daniel Truscott, attended Dec 2024: Awesome class which was enjoyed by our whole group.
  • 5/5 from Kathleen Testro, attended Nov 2024: Very enjoyable class and great space for classes
  • 2/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Nov 2024: We learnt to mix gold dust with glue. I think this was easy enough to youtube and a class is not needed. After applying glue, it meant that our broken plates, bowls and mugs were no longer food safe. Would've liked to have learnt the history and meaning behind kintsugi. Teacher was friendly and helpful. Beautiful venue with hot drinks provided.
  • 5/5 from Bronte How, attended Oct 2024: My wife and I went to this workshop on a bit of a whim, something different to do on a Sunday after a weird couple of months. I couldn't recommend the experience more, don't feel you have to wait for a special occasion to go. Helena is a skilled a friendly instructor, who explains everything in such a way that you are never left feeling intimidated by the task. The space was airy and light, and the whole class had a relaxed atmosphere.
  • 5/5 from Julianne Marshall, attended Oct 2024: This was a fantastic class. The teacher gave clear instructions and provided support when needed. Materials were provided. We purchased a plate and bowl set but you could also bring your own which we did as well. It was great value for money with plenty of time to finish a number of pieces. I loved the chill atmosphere. There as great music playing, the whole process was calming and relaxing. We both loved the class and look forward to mending many broken things at home!
  • 5/5 from Helena Butkovich, attended Sep 2024: Just finished an awesome Kintsugi class. Helena was very informative and supportive. There was plenty of time to observe the process and then put the learnings into practice. We took away enough information and products to do more pieces at home. Thoroughly enjoyed the class and venue was very comfortable (there are stairs to the venue if you're not fully mobile). Highly recommended
  • 4/5 from David Tite, attended Sep 2024: great teacher suggest more information about the traditions of kintsugi and the cultural/social principles about making good something that you have broken
