Linocut Printmaking Masterclass

Learn how to make your own linocut print in Melbourne

3 hours Location Collingwood Class size 1 to 20 (public classes), 12 to 40   $70

Dive into the world of linocut printmaking in this beginner’s class, and you’ll soon be channelling Picasso or Escher. Linocut burst into popularity in the early 20th century as a printmaking technique. A design is cut, carved or gouged into a sheet of linoleum, and this stamp is then inked and pressed onto the fabric, creating repeating patterns. Lino is preferred over wood by many as it lacks a directional grain and doesn’t split. It’s also extremely satisfying to slice and cleave at a supple block of lino, creating a mirror image of your final design. This class will cover designing and drawing your image, how to transfer it to a lino block, and the best methods for proper carving to make a long-lasting and reusable stamp. Learn about traditional repeat patterns and how to print a large area with just one stamp. Your design could be a logo, pattern, words or a hand drawing. You’ll get to take your new stamp and prints home to keep honing your lino skills. Explore symmetry and tessellation through the satisfying practice of linocut printmaking.

Please note: This venue is located on the first floor via a flight of stairs and does not have wheelchair accessibility.

Liana Was able to understand when people needed more help and when they were feeling more confident which is really appreciated! The venue was beautiful, a big space with bathrooms. Highlight was the sweetest studio dog. Accessibility notes are it is up stairs and the chairs were a bit flimsy for heavy girls like me.
