Choose four colours from a wide range of acrylic paints and learn to mix them to the right consistency, with the right ingredients for this style of fluid art. Enjoy the process.

Watch the cells appear as you learn

Watch the Cells Appear as You Learn

Your tutor will demonstrate the two different methods for creating amazing cells - the 'flip cup' for bigger cells and the 'swipe' for smaller, more regular ones. Practice swiping on a shared canvas and experience the magic first hand! You will learn all the tips to create rings of colour with ease.

Create your own amazing masterpieces

Create Your Own Amazing Masterpieces

You’ll start with a 'flip cup' pouring layers of paint into a cup and flipping them onto the canvas before tilting them. After you will do a 'swipe' style, using the same paints you have made up.

Step back and admire

Step Back and Admire

Pause, reflect and share the experience with others.
This is the moment it clicks — you realise you really can create something beautiful.

Looking for relaxing Melbourne activities? Join Live For Art's calming fluid art workshop and learn new skills from a friendly professional!
In this workshop, you will be using a unique pouring technique to create cells with silicone oil. Creating cells that stay put is one of the great challenges of this art form and something your teacher as mastered.
In this class, you will learn two classic styles, the 'flip cup' and the 'swipe'. The classic ‘flip cup’ is where we layer the paints in a cup before flipping the cup onto the canvas, and let it sit for the oil to rise before flipping the cup off. In the 'swipe' style we pour paint onto the canvas and swipe one or more colours with plastic or a palette knife.
With guidance from industry expert Julie, you will learn her best tips and tricks to create a colourful masterpiece you'll be proud to take home and hang on your wall.
This workshop will cover:
  • How to prepare your canvas
  • How to mix paints and paint mediums suitable for this technique
  • Pouring mediums and recipes that are good for this technique and what difference this makes.
  • How to choose colours and layer your paints in the cup.
  • How to do a 'flip cup' and tilt the canvas for the best effect.
  • How to do a 'swipe', bringing an abundance of small cells.
  • How to clean your dried painting ready for varnishing.
After a short demonstration from Julie, you will create your two masterpieces each on 12 x 16 inch (30x40cm) gallery-wrapped canvas or similar, which you can collect after three or four days of drying time (or arrange to have sent to you).
