Bring your child to the historic Story Art Tram for an immersive, hands-on ceramic experience like no other! Tailored specifically for kids aged 7 to 14, this 8-week course offers a beautiful mix of creative storytelling, technical skill-building, and restorative clay play.
Stepping inside our beautifully restored, historic Melbourne Tram 772, your child will slow down, unplug from screens, and dive into a brand-new ceramic adventure each week. Over the course of the term, they will get their hands messy and explore:
  • Handbuilding & Sculpting: Designing characters and vessels from scratch.
  • Working with Wild Clay: Connecting with raw, earthy materials.
  • Painting & Underglazing: Bringing their creations to life with vibrant colours.
  • Glazing Techniques: Learning the secrets of shiny, kiln-fired finishes.
  • The Pottery Wheel: Gaining exciting, hands-on experience on a real pottery wheel!
Whether your child is looking to build confidence, decompress after school, or connect with a thriving community of peers, this program offers a supportive, therapeutic space for them to express their wildest imaginations.
At the end of the 8 weeks, they’ll walk away with completely finished, professionally kiln-fired ceramic masterpieces to proudly display at home forever!

Hi, I’m Karen Alsop! I am a world renowned photographic artist. But in recent years clay has become my creative adventure. There’s nothing I love more than taking wild local clay, Puffing Billy ash, and reclaimed materials and turning them into unique, story-filled pieces. Every texture, every imperfection, tells a story, and I love helping others discover that magic for themselves.
I’ve taught hundreds of students across various art forms, run team workshops, and guided first-time enthusiasts to confident creators. In my classes, it’s all about exploring your creativity, having fun, and leaving with something you’re proud of.
When I’m not teaching, I run the Story Art Gallery inside Melbourne’s historic Tram 772, where my ceramics, photography, and mixed media creations come together, and I lead The Heart Project, helping volunteers create portraits for children in hospitals. Art isn’t just what I do—it’s how I connect, create, and celebrate life.
Join me in a class and experience the joy of shaping clay, telling your story, and making something truly yours.
