Make a Silver Ring Workshop

Learn how to make a silver ring in Collingwood

3 hours Location Collingwood Class size 1 to 20 (public classes), 12 to 40   $180

Ever wanted to craft your own silver jewellery? This workshop is the perfect introduction for those looking to dip their toes in the shiny world of silversmithing.

Using the ancient method of lost wax carving, you will learn an easy and low-cost method for making unique pieces all on their own. Lost wax carving starts with making a wax model of your desired object, which is used to create a metal mould called casting. The casts are then taken to have molten silver poured into the mould and, once hardened, filed or carved into its final shape.
We’ll cover the different varieties of wax and their properties, and how to create a ring using basic shaping techniques with files and carving tools. You’ll gain an understanding of the lost wax technique, casting and the finishing of metal jewellery.
Explore texture and pattern through the creation of several wax rings and select a favourite to have finished in 925 Silver. You can collect your finished ring three to four weeks after the class.
Please note: This class requires at least eight students to run. In the unlikely event that we don't get this number of students, we'll cancel the class and fully refund you and inform you via email, so please watch your email a few days prior to the class.

Please note: This venue is located on the first floor via a flight of stairs and does not have wheelchair accessibility.

  • 5/5 from Raffaella Liquori, attended Aug 2026: This was my very first workshop of ring making and I really enjoyed it. Liana was very lovely and, after explaining some "basics" and tools that we would be using during the workshop, she let us playing around with a piece of wax (a "test-ring") before getting into our master piece. I didn't go to the workshop with an idea of ring in mind, but when I left I was quite satisfied with what I created. Playing and experimenting is key. It was fun and I also enjoyed Liana's palylist
  • 5/5 from Rose Durance, attended Jul 2026: We had the best time at the silver ring making workshop with Liana as a part of our team day. I love the creative freedom and relaxed nature of the class. Overall it was a great experience and I would come back again with a group of friends!
  • 5/5 from Tommy Whistlecroft, attended May 2026: 10/10, had a great time, Liana did a wonderful job of showing us the basics and was always at hand and attentive whenever questions or problems came up. Great chat and she was stuck in making her own ring along side us. I was immersed in my ring project but wasn’t able to finish it within the allotted time, Liana was kind enough to send me on my way with my wax and a selection of borrowed tools so I could keep tinkering at home and return the finished piece for moulding in my own time. She’s great the class is great and the space is great. Gets a bit cold in there so bring a jacket. Tea and coffee are provided
  • 5/5 from Penelope Jones, attended Apr 2026: Liana was a warm and encouraging instructor. She the perfect combination of ensuring we had the key skills, but the flexibility to experiment and explore.
  • 5/5 from Luka Johnston, attended Feb 2026: Amazing teacher, great vibes, brilliant experience all round!

  • 5/5 from Kellie Yeow, attended Jan 2026: Liana was a very patient and encouraging teacher and let the class very well. I loved learning about how to use the tools and different techniques to make the ring. The venue was great and set up well thought out. I would highly recommend to others.
  • 5/5 from Angus Obrien, attended Dec 2025: Organised this class as a group activity for our work team, was an incredible experience. Our teacher, Liana, was an incredible host who was lovely, accommodating, and very funny. She showed us very clearly what every tool did and how it could be used to achieve certain results from our rings. She has also gone to the effort of organising a swift casting, and polishing all pieces herself before passing them along. While working on our individual pieces, our whole team was chatting and laughing, creating a great team bonding experience. Would recommend this class 100% and hope to be back one day!
  • 5/5 from Beth Lamb, attended Sep 2025: Liana was a excellent teacher and we had a fabulous time making our rings. Would definitely reccomend!
  • 5/5 from Melissa Hawkes, attended May 2025: The how to make a silver ring workshop was alot of fun. The teacher was very friendly and helpful giving out lots of tips on how to carve your wax. I would highly recommend the class to ring enthusiasts. Thanks
  • 5/5 from Sarah Lindsay, attended Apr 2025: Fun process, the time went very quickly. However, the instructor could have provided more guidance to the class on how they can assist, as they were quite distracted by talking to their acquaintance during the night. Separating the tables would be a good idea as the movement when filing rocked other people's tables. It was very good to see the rings that other people have made, so you could be inspired or have an understanding of what you can make.
  • 5/5 from Maddy McCusker, attended Apr 2025: Definitely book this one in - the teacher was so friendly, knowledgable, funny and relatable and created such a warm encouraging atmosphere. I came by myself and wasn't the only one and had some lovely chats about craft and life, so don't feel like you have to wait until you can wrangle a friend!
  • 5/5 from Kate Pike, attended Mar 2025: Went with a couple of friends for a crafty arvo. Very well organised, and help given where you need it. Very Zen couple of hours carving away at blue wax.

  • 4/5 from Vera Cabral, attended Feb 2025: I really enjoyed this class! Very well run and the teacher was helpful and explained the process clearly. My only suggestion is to give a bit of heads up to attendees before the class (perhaps via email) with suggestions for the students to come with some ideas that would work well when using wax to design your ring. I for one, had no idea of the material I would be working with I would like to attend another workshop again in the future. Thank you.

Otherwise thoroughly enjoyed the experience and was happy with the outcome of my ring
  • 5/5 from Candeece Brown, attended Mar 2024: I really enjoyed this class. I have never done anything like this before and wanted to do something out of my comfort zone. The class was achievable for an absolute beginner like me but also challenging enough for someone with more experience and creativity. It was a judgement free zone and really welcoming. I never felt like I didn’t belong there or wasn’t good enough for the class. I can’t wait to see what my final product looks like. I was able to make two rings. I can’t wait to do more mini courses.
  • 5/5 from Cynthia Lim, attended Mar 2024: It was such an enjoyable experience - it was a very tactile and meditative experience working with wax - Caity was a great teacher.

  • 5/5 from Lorena Talavera Priale, attended Feb 2024: Got this as my Christmas present from my partner and we went together. We had lots of fun, the tools were easy to use. I do think it's better to come to the class with a couple of ideas of what you want to make. There are some samples but that was probably the hardest bit. You get to have a few attempts and the class includes one ring but if you liked more than one you get to buy another one at a good price. Looking forward to picking them up soon! Thank you :)
  • 5/5 from Taylor Scaife, attended Feb 2024: Katie was so good! She made the day super fun and easy for us. Everyone should do this for their hens, highly recommend Thank you Katie

The tools and notes were great and it really felt like I had everything I needed (including expert advice and hands-on help) to make what I hope is one (even two if they both work out!) lovely rings. I thought we had 2 hours, but it was 3, so I didn't feel at all rushed. The room was very spacious, the whole process was very calm and I had time to be careful and really think about what I was doing. It was unexpectedly relaxing! And there were sweet treats! Highly recommend.
