Drawing Class: Everyone Can Draw

Discover your potential in this experimental drawing class

3 hours Class size 6 to 8     label $170

When we were little kids, we all drew. It felt good and natural - it is - and you can get back there. You just need to push past the self-consciousness and back to the great pleasure and flow of drawing, in a way that's loose and intuitive.

Everyone Can Draw is an experimental drawing workshop and a response to the huge number of people who express a desire to draw and a belief that they can't. So many people have what Dr Brené Brown calls 'shame wounds' from art classes at school, where their work got low marks or they were told they couldn't really draw. If you want to tend those wounds, this workshop is very healing.

This class is designed to shift you past the self-consciousness, fear and blockage and get you to reset your good self. Through observation, you'll look and respond to what you see, in a way that's gestural and energetic, rather than slavishly literal. You'll learn how to draw mindfully and loosely, and reconnect with play, which is so important for our mental health. It won't feel anxiety-inducing, it will feel relaxing and liberating!

Everyone can draw, even with their eyes closed. Even standing on one leg. Even with one arm behind their back. And in this class, you'll see just that.

This experimental drawing workshop has been designed to help you get drawing again, tapping into the pure pleasure of responding to what you see. You'll be drawing in a way that's loose and fluid, intuitive and gestural. It will probably get messy and it will definitely feel good.

I am a painter, printmaker and designer of textiles. I own a small fabric company called Cloth that I set up almost 25 years ago and I work with a small team of people who love what they do, making textiles by hand, the old fashioned way. I collaborate with others for the joy of making something together that we couldn’t make alone. In Blackheath, I run imperfect workshops for the creatively curious.
