Ready to make ceramic pieces from scratch? Join us for an hour hand-building class at our vibrant studio in Melbourne! Perfect for beginners, this workshop invites you to get your hands dirty and unleash your inner artist.
Guided by a real ceramic enthusiast, trained in the world-famous ceramic town of Jingdezhen in China, you'll start with a brief introduction to basic hand-building techniques and decoration.
Then, we'll dive into hands-on pottery making together. With the clay we provided, you can mould and shape small vessels like a plate, cup or bowl, and make small decorations on it, such as cat paws, pig heads, small hearts, and small handles, and you can freely express your own creations.
In the end, you’ll choose a favourite colour to glaze your vessel and we'll fire your masterpiece for you. It will be ready for pick-up in three to four weeks.
Pick-up Reminder!!! (Very Important):
If you’d like to collect your pieces(If you have), please be sure to book ahead so you don’t make an unnecessary trip
Please note that all creations must be collected within 4 months of your course. Any unclaimed pieces after this time will be donated to charity
Please note: Ceramics can be such a fun and rewarding art form, but unfortunately, not every piece survives the kiln. Sometimes, they may break due to factors like excess moisture or unexpected explosions during firing, despite our best efforts to prevent issues during the finishing process. While we always do our utmost to ensure a successful outcome, we’re unable to offer refunds for pieces that crack naturally. However, if we determine the damage occurred due to a kiln or technician error, we’ll be happy to assist accordingly.
Booking Tips:
Our classes are cozy and fill up fast! We understand life can be unpredictable. To help everyone have a great experience, please note our cancellation and rescheduling policies:
  • To reschedule, please do so at least 48 hours before your class begins. Late rescheduling (within 48 hours before your class begins) will result in booking again (100% of the total ticket prices).
  • For cancellations, a full refund is available if you cancel at least 48 hours before your class starts. Late cancellations will result in no refund.
Please note that this course is more likely to be private on weekdays, but there will be other guests (but no more than 12 people) on weekends.

  • 5/5 from Katherine Auchterlonie, attended Jun 2026: Such a great class! Lynn was so lovely and helped me so much being someone who’s never done clay/pottery before. So happy with the piece I created and can definitely credit her with the tips and tricks!

  • 5/5 from Ramisa, attended Jun 2026: Highly recommended for anyone looking to try something different with friends or work colleagues. I recently went with my team, and it was honestly one of the best experiences I've had. We had so much fun, and it was a great way to connect and enjoy something new together.

  • 5/5 from Nathan Snelson, attended Dec 2025: Amazing class! Private and intimate class that was made super engaging by the explanations and support with shaping techniques.
  • 5/5 from Lauren Capiaghi, attended Dec 2025: Christie was amazing and gave us great direction. Would highly recommend! The only thing I would say is it felt a bit rushed. I think the class should be at least 1hour and 20 minutes so you have enough time to make the piece plus paint it. It takes a lot of time to smooth the cracks as well. I’m keen to see my piece in 4-6 weeks :) thank you!
  • 5/5 from Helen Zhu, attended Nov 2025: We really enjoyed the session, was great fun. Beginner friendly.
  • 5/5 from Jen Shu, attended Nov 2025: It was such a fun class. One hour flew past and I barely noticed!! Highly recommend it.
  • 5/5 from Cassie Adams, attended Nov 2025: A calm friendly space. Our instructor was kind and helpful, letting us do our thing without trying to control our pieces. We ran overtime and the team were so patient. Thank you. we can’t wait to collect our pieces.
  • 5/5 from Mei Luo, attended Nov 2025: very kind teacher, gentle to little ones.
  • 2/5 from Nikta Kaitler, attended Nov 2025: Although the teachers and assistants were lovely, for $100 the experience was quite unprofessional and not worth it. We didn't really receive any 'teaching'. Rather, my group spent $100 each for a lump of clay and some tools to make our design. This wasn't really a professional class and we were not taught any techniques, it felt like a primary school arts and craft class instead. And slightly disappointing that we need to wait 4 weeks to receive our creation.
  • 5/5 from Mom and Dad, attended Oct 2025: We had a lovely time with Kristin teaching us today for our one hour private class. She was meticulous, patient and easy to talk to. The ambience of the workshop was peaceful & calming. We parked at spotlight’s car park and took a short walk over. Highly recommended!

  • 5/5 from Melvina Fogianto, attended Sep 2025: Had the most amazing time and our teacher Kristy was really patient and helpful. Highly recommend this workshop to anyone interested in pottery!
  • 5/5 from Pauline Tibbertsma, attended Jul 2025: This ended up being a really nice 2:1 class, with some useful tips on how to do some hand pottery. The facilitator was lovely and skilled. We then painted our work with a glaze. There is a toilet on site. Aprons provided. We will pick it up in 2-3 weeks. I recommend this as a nice activity to get a first taste of hand pottery (without a wheel).
  • 5/5 from Tawan Petcharawan, attended Jul 2025: You can make things like: Mugs, plate and much more. Kristy was our teacher for the class, she was very patient and made it easy for us to understand and follow through. Would recommend this class for everyone and definitely will come back again!
  • 5/5 from Yunseo Lim, attended Jul 2025: It was a perfect class to enjoy!!! Staff was so kind and nice. I will definetely recommend and re visit!
  • 5/5 from Ka Jing Emily Chung, attended Jul 2025: Christine was the sweetest, prettiest, most amazing teacher ever. Three of us would have been so lost without her. We did a private hand building class, I loved the bowls and plate that we made, hopefully it turns out fine. Will definitely request Christine again if possible again.
  • 5/5 from Patrick Shearer, attended Jun 2025: We had a wonderful time hand-building and glazing our own mugs. The teacher was patient and helped us get into the basics of building very quickly. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and we’re looking forward to seeing how our pieces turned out
  • 5/5 from Cheng Yeo, attended Jun 2025: Christine was a great teacher - very knowledgeable and patient. I had a lot of fun hand building my plate.
  • 5/5 from Enya H, attended Jun 2025: Fun and relaxing activity, would recommend! Complete freedom with creations :) Teacher was helpful and lovely!
  • 5/5 from Tobias Emare, attended May 2025: Today was a really fun and wholesome experience! We were easily guided through the whole time and had the freedom to be as creative as we wanted. • 5/5 from Emilly Spanos, attended Apr 2025: Very professional and relaxing
  • 5/5 from Jed Goodluck, attended Mar 2025: Great class, our teacher was very helpful and reassuring as we had never done pottery before
  • 5/5 from Yuk Jing Loke, attended Mar 2025: We had Ada as our teacher and we had a great time!! She was patient in teaching us and we learnt a lot about hand holding clay. Thank you for the great experience!
  • 1/5 from Demi Cosma, attended Mar 2025: This “workshop” needs a LOT of improvement, there were virtually no tips, tricks or suggestions provided other than basic instructions on how to create our desired object and “don’t use too much water” and “smooth over cracks don’t press them” but the “instructor” was so quick to want to take over and do it herself which defeats the purpose, we wanted to make it ourselves and learn not have it made for us. There were no creative suggestions on things we could make, the 3 examples on the table were all terrible and didn’t even depict an accurate sized mug for the amount of clay we had. There was a 5 minute speech about the importance of washing and bringing the brush back when the sink was literally behind the instructor.. for 100 dollars each maybe you can wash the brushes yourselves? And for 100 dollars it didn’t even go for the whole hour, it was 45 minutes max. There was also not a clean hand towel or paper towels to dry my hands on? I was told to dry them on my dirty apron that was covered in clay? After pointing that out I was offered a wet wipe so was forced to dry my hands on my jeans. I think I would have been able to make something more impressive by buying my own clay and watching a YouTube tutorial. Lastly - asking customers to rate the experience in front of the instructor is so uncomfortable and inappropriate and will not yield accurate answers and therefore no improvements can be made.
