Want to learn how to make Japanese food at home? Join us for a hands on Japanese cooking class!

Japanese food is renowned for its freshness and simplicity. In this cooking class you'll learn how to make authentic Japanese food using the freshest seasonal produce and pick up some presentation techniques so you can replicate the dishes at home.

Come expecting a social cooking environment led by an experienced Otao kitchen chef. The cooking lesson will start with a refreshing drink, some demonstrations of Japanese cooking techniques and some insight into the best ingredients to use when cooking Japanese food. Then it's time to start chopping!

At the end of class everyone will enjoy the incredible food you have made in a relaxed and informal dining setting.

Sample menu (Jan/Mar/May/Jul/Sep/Nov):
- Okonomiyaki Japanese pancake
- Gyoza Dumplings pork and ginger filling
- Silken Tofu Salad
- Ramen Noodle Pork and Broth

- Cup of Miso Soup 
- Sushi Makings Salmon and Vegetable
- The Arts of Tempura
- Create Bento Box

On the day:
Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time of the class. We cannot accommodate or refund for those who arrival after the scheduled start time, even if you call ahead. The instructor will be expected to start on time and will not be able to repeat the health and safety and/or demonstrations at the beginning of the class.

Important info:
We can cater to different dietary requirements. If you need to cancel or reschedule a booking you must do this at least seven days before your class to cancel or reschedule. We are sorry that we cannot refund or rebook any cancellations made online or in person after this time. In the event that you are unwell we ask that you send someone in your place. The participants who are not unwell will still be expected to attend. Alternatively, if you provide notice prior to the class, you are welcome to collect the ingredients and online recipe to take home with you after the class. Please note that this may not be possible as fresh meats and seafoods in all cases.

Chef Hà Nguyen began his career in Hanoi local restaurants and the Hilton Opera Hotel before travel, study and work in Wellington, New Zealand –New Zealand Diploma in Cookery and Bachelor in Hospitality Management at Wellington Institute of Technology. Chef Hà has started with Intercontinental Hotel Wellington, working with Twelve Apostles Lodge Walk developing menu for Alkina Lodge along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, delivering nourishing and fresh menus to clients.

He believes that cooking, eating and sharing should be an experience, not just a meal. He created OTAO Kitchen as an extension of his passion for food and to share this passion with others. Food plays an important role in his Vietnamese culture heritage and is central to his family life. Sharing a meal with family and loved ones is a traditional and happy experience. He wishes to extend this experience to you and welcome you to OTAO Kitchen.
