Jumping Spider and Bioactive Enclosure Workshop

Take home your own jumping spider and an enriching bioactive enclosure!

1.5 hours

Class size 1 to 10 (public classes), 6 to 13
  $148 (Afterpay available)

Learn everything you need to confidently care for a jumping spider and create a beautiful, bioactive enclosure to take home. This workshop collaboration with Botanista and wildlife expert Cory Young brings together knowledge on spider care, enclosure setup, natural planting techniques, and the benefits of an enriching pet environment, all in one fascinating and hands-on session.
You will learn all about jumping spider behaviour, their needs, and how to care for these charismatic little arachnids. We will guide you through building your enclosure's habitat, from substrates to choosing suitable plants.
By the end of the class, you will leave with a complete setup for your new pet, your very own jumping spider, and the confidence to keep your new pet happy and healthy.
Please note: The exact jumping spider species will vary, depending on available breeds at the time of the workshop. You are welcome to send a message to ask about jumping spider breeds closer to the time of the event occurring.
Jumping spiders may be a mix of wild caught and captive bred, and may range in age from juvenile to adult. Please be aware that some adult female wild caught spiders may lay eggs.
About your facilitators:
  • Char from Botanista has created a number of bioactive enclosures for bugs including her own shop jumping spider Enid! Char breeds the beneficial springtails and isopods used at Botanista and brings her extensive knowledge of plants and terrarium building.
  • Cory from Fish Organic and Reptile supplies has been supplying native fish, frogs and invertibrates (including jumping spiders) as well as a range of bio active products to more than 100 pet stores accross Australia for over 10 years. Cory has had an interest in all things wildlife growing up in South Australia. While Cory's area of expertise is native Australian fish and threatened fish species, he also has great knowledge of insects, reptiles and frog husbandry and care.
