What you'll do

Learn how to design and build your own garden sculpture using junk materials in this fun hands-on Perth course! This is a great experience that will open your eyes to using discarded objects in new and exciting ways to create something entirely new.

This sculpture course is perfect for beginners, as your expert teacher will guide you through the design and making process.

Course outline over five sessions:

Class 1: Pre-design meeting to determine the theme/basic design idea with your teacher.
Class 2: Brainstorm/design session.
Class 3 and 4: Construction workshops including detail design, decoration and construction.

In this course you have the flexibility to choose when you want to take each class, however, please note at least two weeks is required between class two and three to source and pre-fab junk materials prior to the construction workshops.

All materials, tools and safety gear will be provided in each class. You will be required to use low powered battery drills with screwdriver fitting for attaching screws, spray painting and cutting plastic with scissors. No power tool cutting or drilling will be done by children in the workshops.

There will be four teachers available in this course, capable of handling up to 30 participants at one time.

An allowance is made for the installation of the final piece at a designated location after the workshop.

Please note: The sculpture you make will be semi-permanent in nature. It will be made predominantly of durable recycled plastic materials held together with screws and bolts, so if the sculpture is installed outdoors in the weather and extended life for the sculpture is required, additional maintenance may be required. If the sculpture is installed indoors the life expectancy is greatly extended.

After the first session, subsequent sessions can be arranged with the teacher, at a time that suits you.

This class is great for individuals and couples as well as for a team building activity, birthday or hens party.

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 10 years old).

An adult must accompany any attending kids. The adult may observe at the class for free.

Through the Junkadelic Arts Collective, we are extremely passionate about bringing art, music and creative skill-building to all corners of Australia, with residences at the Salvage Katherine Festival of Junk Arts (NT, 2014), and Gascoyne in May Festival (WA, 2013) also highlights. Notable workshops include Kununurra NAIDOC Week (2018), Yalgoo Emu Cup (2013, 2015-17, 2019), and Kalamunda's Zig Zag Festival (2015-16, 2018, 2019).

The Junkadelic Brass Band was founded in 2002, and was simply known as Junkadelic; a junk percussion group that performed at environmental street actions and social justice events, as well as other activist causes. The group's first gig was the World Environment Day in Forrest Place (Perth CBD) in 2002.

Junkadelic added a horn section in 2010 to become the stage-based funk band, the Junkadelic Brass Band, as it's known as today.

In addition to music workshops, we also teach people how to make sculptures using junk.

Finally - we also provide cartooning workshops.
