Kids Patch and Stitch Workshop

A fun, all-day school holiday workshop where kids patch, and personalize their own clothes.

8 to 12 years     6 hours Class size 10 to 16 guests       $135 (PayPal Pay in 4 available)

Looking for a creative and practical school holiday activity in Sydney? In this full-day workshop for kids aged 8–12, we’ll help them transform a favourite piece of clothing into a one-of-a-kind fashion statement!
Children will bring a plain garment from home—like a white cotton t-shirt, denim shorts, or an old shirt ready for a refresh—and rotate through two creative stations:
  • Patch It – Stitch on fabric scraps and shapes using simple hand-sewing techniques
  • Stitch It – Learn a basic embroidery stitch and embellish the garment with stitched words or motifs
Kids will work in small groups, rotating through the stations throughout the day, with plenty of time to revisit their favourite techniques and finish their personalised piece.
What they'll learn:
  • Simple hand stitching techniques like running stitch or backstitch
  • A basic embroidery stitch to add names, patterns, or little motifs
  • How to upcycle and give old clothes a new life
  • Confidence in making creative choices and expressing personal style
This is a hands-on, fashion-focused day of creativity where kids can patch, stitch, and style their own clothes just the way they like. With patches, and embroidery, they’ll explore different techniques and turn something old into something uniquely theirs. It’s the perfect mix of self-expression, skill-building, and wearable fun—and they’ll go home with both a customised garment and an embroidery hoop to keep creating all holidays long.
Safety and Drop-Off Information:
  • Our secure space is only accessible to participants.
  • All instructors have valid Working with Children Checks.
  • Parents must drop off & pick up children in person and complete a short admission form.

What you'll get
  • A curated mix of fabric scraps, thread, and embroidery floss
  • Use of needles, scissors, and hand-sewing tools
  • A personal embroidery hoop for each child to keep and use at home
  • Expert guidance and a supportive, fun environment
  • Breaks for morning tea, lunch, and rest throughout the day
Knowledge required
This workshop is perfect for children aged 8 to 12 years.
Please note this class is not suitable for children under 8 years old or those in Years K–2, as the activities involve fine motor skills and fiddly techniques that younger children often find too challenging.
What to bring
  • A plain clothing item to customise — white cotton t-shirts and denim pieces work best. They are welcome to bring more than one item to try different techniques on, time pending.
  • A water bottle, morning tea, and lunch
  • Clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy (aprons provided, but creativity gets wild!)

Made by Me Workshop is about helping people to connect with their "inner creative" and have some fun while making beautiful things from quality materials in our friendly & vibrant studio space in the heart of the inner west!
Established in 2017 after Rebecca Doyle decided to take a career break and chose to revisit her childhood love for arts & crafts. Rebecca grew up in a large family where money was tight, after school activities where mostly homegrown and usually involved a sheet of cardboard, a glue stick and some glitter! It is probably no surprise to learn that Rebecca followed a creative path to study Fashion & Textile Design at University!
After a few more decades (than Rebecca will publicly admit to) and a long and varied career in the fashion industry, Rebecca wanted to get back to creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind objects - Made By Me Workshop is the result of where this path led.
Rebecca loves that moment of pride that comes over each participant's face when they look at what they have created and say to themselves "Wow - I made this & I love it!"
Made by Me Workshop run a variety of creative workshops, hen’s parties, private parties and corporate events from their warehouse space in St Peters including Resin Art, Resin Jewellery & Mould Making, Soap Making, Terrazzo Homewares, Punch Needle, Macrame and many more.
