Kintsugi Your Clothing: Repair, Embellish & Sustainability
Embrace the Art of Visible Mending
Join myself & embroidery specialist Elise Cook for an inspiring and hands-on workshop where we explore the beauty of repairing clothing through beadwork, embellishments, and traditional Japanese stitching techniques like Sashiko. Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi—which celebrates the beauty of repair—this workshop encourages you to transform damaged or worn garments into stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces.
What You’ll Learn:
  • Sashiko stitching techniques to strengthen and decorate fabric
  • How to use beadwork and embellishments to mend and enhance garments
  • Creative ways to extend the life of your clothing while making it unique
  • The sustainability benefits of repairing and repurposing clothing
Why It Matters:
Fashion waste is a growing problem, but you can be part of the solution! Repairing your clothes not only reduces textile waste but also fosters a deeper connection with your wardrobe. Instead of discarding damaged garments, learn to celebrate their history by adding artistic repairs that make them even more special.
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in sustainable fashion, embroidery, beading, or creative mending—no prior experience necessary! Whether you're reviving a beloved piece or learning a new craft, you'll leave with practical skills and a renewed appreciation for slow fashion.
Please bring some options of repairs and upcycles with you, and we can guide you on at least one piece to complete in class. You will have access to over 25 ranges of beads and threads with the option to buy more specialist crystals and stones on the day for a small charge. All other equipment included.
Event Details:
Date: Sunday 13th April (full moon)
Time: 10-4pm
Location: Studio 1, 54 Stuart St, Mullumbimby
Come stitch, bead, and mend with us as we celebrate the beauty of imperfection and sustainability in fashion.

A beautifully enhanced and repaired garment with embellishments, embroidery, and beadwork.

Couture Bead Masters is founded by Charlotte Appleby a British Couture dress designer, trained at London College of Fashion in Handcraft and Production tailoring. I initially worked within fashion, film and theatre before setting up my own business The English Tailoress. I always had a passion for couture beading and applied it to many of my eveningwear and bridal designs. I learnt the skill in 2007 through a workshop and became hooked on the ‘Luneville’ technique. This technique is practised in the couture houses in Paris today however its origin dates to the early 1800s.
I celebrate the traditional art of couture beading and share my experience with other designers, enthusiasts and companies worldwide. I set up Couture Bead Masters to maintain these artisanal skills within the industry to keep the traditional techniques alive.
Alongside my private commission work, I educate Internationally running workshops and courses teaching specialist skills executed in my work. I also provide specialist couture supplies and online resources sharing my knowledge and continued appreciation of couture beading and embellishment.
