Learn Japanese calligraphy with Tomoko! Come and experience the art and enjoyment of writing Kanji (Japanese characters) with brush and ink.

In this live streaming class, Tomoko will show you how to create several characters, and teach you the meaning and method for each Shodo. You will learn basic calligraphy skills, and practice writing simple Kanji or their favourite Japanese word. Perhaps you'll even discover your passion for calligraphy!

This live online class is great for both individuals and groups. If you have an interest in Japanese culture, or you like calligraphy or trying new kinds of art, then you'll probably love this class! Everyone will make their own artworks to treasure and keep.

This class is popular for individuals and couples, as well as for virtual team building activities or corporate events.

Knowledge required
No knowledge of Japanese calligraphy (or basic calligraphy) needed.
What to bring
  • A brush (if you don’t have a calligraphy brush, a round, soft paintbrush will be okay).
  • Some ink (or watery paint, such as acrylic ink, if you don’t have ink).
  • An ink tray of some kind (a plastic container, a plate etc.).
  • Paper (calligraphy paper if you have it, or normal printer paper is fine too).
  • A paperweight, anything heavy will work.
Suitable for

This Live streaming class is great for individuals and couples as well as for virtual team building activities at home.

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 6 years old). An adult must accompany any attending kids. The adult may observe at the class for free.

Tomoko is a Japanese calligraphy artist, a miso maker and a language teacher based around Sydney and the Central Coast. Tomoko was born and grew up in Japan, and she have been living in Australia for about 6 years. Tomoko loves the beaches and natural landscapes here!

Tomoko loves sharing Japanese culture through Japanese calligraphy, miso making and Japanese language. She has conducted calligraphy workshops in schools and various venues in Sydney, the Central Coast and Melbourne, as well as giving demonstrations at karate dojos and at marketing events for private companies.

Tomoko also has a passion for traditional foods, running sushi and miso workshops. She is always keen to share her love of Japanese food!
