Nine-Patch Quilt Sampler Sewing Workshop

Learn the basics of quilting!

3 hours Class size 1 to 6 guests

$150 (Afterpay & PayPal Pay in 4 available)

In this workshop, you will learn the basics of quilting. Held in the beautiful Blue Mountains, in Pip's bush studio, she will teach you how to create a nine-patch quilt block using her favourite tips and techniques. You’ll piece together a small quilted piece perfect as a wall hanging, placemat or sample to practise your new skills.
What you’ll learn:
  • Arranging and sewing fabric squares (hand or machine)
  • Basic stitching techniques
  • How to make a quilt ‘sandwich’ by adding backing and batting
  • Choosing colour and fabric combinations
Don't worry if you're new to sewing! If you don't own a sewing machine, you can hand sew or borrow one----just get in touch. The welcoming atmosphere of the workshop aims to make you feel comfortable and inspired as you explore this creative activity.
By the end of the class, you will not only have a beautiful 9-patch quilt sampler to take home but also a newfound sense of achievement and confidence in your sewing abilities.
What you'll get
  • Hands-on guidance with hand and machine sewing
  • Precut fabric squares, batting, and backing provided (you bring your own machine, scissors, and thread).
  • Step-by-step instruction for piecing, stitching, and finishing a quilt sampler
  • A 9-patch quilt sampler to take home
  • Confidence to continue quilting at home and start larger projects
Knowledge required
The basics of sewing would be helpful but not essential.
What to bring
Please bring a sewing machine, thread and scissors. If you don't have a machine, please get in touch. It is possible to hand sew or borrow mine.

Textile Artist & Maker
I’m Pip, a textile artist working with cloth, plant colour, and print. My practice moves between quilting, natural dyeing, hand stitching, and lino printing. I work slowly, deliberately, and by hand — exploring what happens when traditional craft is treated with the same care and seriousness as fine art.
I’ve spent over 15 years creating, teaching, and facilitating workshops across studios, galleries, schools, and community spaces. I teach because these skills matter. Hand stitching teaches patience. Machine quilting teaches confidence. Natural dyeing teaches respect for process. Printmaking teaches courage in mark-making.
In my workshops, you’ll work at a calm, focused pace. You’ll learn real techniques, make something entirely your own, and leave with skills and confidence to continue at home.
