My name is Jacqui, and I discovered pottery about eight years ago when I signed up for a pottery course at the local community centre. I was hooked from the get-go. In fact, I became so passionate about it, that I have since completed numerous courses in hand-building, wheel-throwing, glazing and firing in Australia, Denmark and Italy.
I started OoPs (One-off Pottery Studio) in 2019 and have since sold hundreds of pieces at several markets like the Rose Street Market, Mansfield Pottery Festival, the Brighton Soul Night Market, Le Studio Ceramics market, and Mooroduc Station Market.
I have also exhibited numerous pieces at the Dinner Plain Art Fair, Beaumaris Art Group, the Gulgong Clay Festival, the Sol Gallery in Fitzroy and the Memo Gallery in Healesville. I currently have numerous pieces exhibiting at Eagles Nest Galley in Aireys Inlet and my "Oceans, Interrupted" Exhbition at The Window, Bayside in Sandringham.
In 2022, I ran the ceramic studio at Le Studio Art Space in Mordialloc. There I discovered my love of teaching wheel-throwing and hand-building in collaboration with other wonderful ceramic teachers. I set up my own studio in Hampton in 2024, where I teach today. I also teach at the Beaumaris Art Group and the Brighton Recreation Centre.
What do I love about pottery? Mostly how I become completely absorbed in watching a piece of mud transform into a vessel and can shut out the world for a few hours. I love the unpredictable nature of pottery - each time I open the kiln, it's like a new exciting episode of a sitcom. The alchemy of earth, water, fire and chemicals leads to a myriad possibilities. Not-to-mention that pottery is mesmerising to watch and do. And fun. And very messy.
