4.8 (59)Rehana Usman is an artist with a Bachelors' degree in Textile design from NCA Pakistan. She has served in the leading textile companies of the country and participated in several international trade shows like Heimtextil Frankfurt & Shanghai, Maison et Objet, Texworld etc.
Print design and styling have been her expertise both in apparel and home textiles. She has run several workshops for textile students along with being a thesis consultant and an associate professor at NCA. Rehana is also passionate about watercolour painting and famous Pakistani Truck Art. She writes children's stories for her Urdu podcast and creates the illustrations.
She has set up STUDIO RAGS to promote value-added skills. She aims to share her expertise with other people by offering regular workshops. She carries many stories and experiences from other parts of the world.
Rehana is multi lingual and can speak four languages. She is simple, imaginative and very proud of her origin.
Indonesian batik is her speciality in Australia. Her workshops have received 5 star reviews in Adelaide Fringe. Batik was declared as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
These adult workshops are about equipping you with new personal projects or a creative hobby and making new friends. Kids can also discover the artform and upskill for both leisure and career opportunities.

I loved learning about the history and the different techniques of Batik creation. Rehana is a compelling story teller and her calm presence guided us through the activity, and 2.5 hours flew by :)

My 2 boys and I had such a fun experience at the Classbento painting with with kids. It was a Mother’s Day activity and we had so much fun bonding over painting. Such a great experience. The instructor was so patient and lovely to deal with. Can’t wait to do another class

Teacher was very knowledgeable during the lecture, providing some tips and ticks along the way. I appreciated her time in answering any questions I had. I was under the impression there was a practical element to the class. So I was disappointed I spent the time preparing before hand and feel the experience would be more beneficial if it were supported with this.

It was good, I enjoyed learning the process and using the hot wax to make our designs, cool new skill to learn! I love the way the finished fabric looks, everyone's turned out amazing, and the teacher was very competent and able to teach well. I think the class was a bit overcrowded, not enough work stations/ supplies meant standing around waiting for our turn to use the dye, the flowers design etc but it didn't really matter, just would've appreciated a more relaxing experience!

This was a fun experience, you work on the fabric before meeting with Rehana it was enjoyable to paint the wax on the fabric- a good way of practicing mindfulness. Rehana is a great teacher who has a very informative video and has a lot knowledge of Batik. Thanks for having an unique experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed the class. The materials are sent by mail. U-tube videos were provided to introduce me to the procedure and I was able to have a practice before doing the online class.
Rehana was delightful. She answered all my questions and offered many tips and ideas. It was all very easy to follow and understand.

had a wonderful time relearning indigo shibori. it's critical that you do the preparation before class esp. with the various techniques of folding to achieve the design pattern for your shibori.

I have been wanting to learn batik painting. So glad to find Rehana and do it online. Recommend to do the prep work before the live session so you can ask a lot of batik techniques question. Also recommend to do wax on both side as the pattern are more prominent. Rehana is very knowledgeable and will guide you through the process.

Rehana was a great teacher, very patient and knowledgeable. The venue was also good. All materials were included and well set up. The class ran a bit over time as we were a bit slow with our designs but we were not rushed. We all really enjoyed making our batik fabric and will look to do another class with Rehana next year.
