Shibori Indigo Dyeing Workshop

Fold, bind and dip your way to stunning indigo-dyed fabric

3 hours Location Springwood Class size 1 to 8 guests   $120 (Afterpay available)

I'm a natural dyer and artist with 10 years of experience, and one of my favourite moments is watching someone's cloth turn from green to blue as the indigo meets the air. In this relaxed half-day shibori workshop, I'll share the techniques I've learned along the way.
What you'll do:
Learn the ancient Japanese art of shibori, a resist dyeing technique where fabric is folded, bound, pleated, clamped or wrapped before it goes into the indigo vat. You'll make a variety of pattern samples based on traditional methods, then undo your ties to reveal them.
You'll also transform an item of clothing that you can bring along to breathe new life into it!
You'll also learn:
  • The history and tradition of shibori
  • Classic shibori techniques
  • How an indigo vat works
  • How to care for your indigo-dyed pieces at home

Textile Artist & Maker
I’m Pip, a textile artist working with cloth, plant colour, and print. My practice moves between quilting, natural dyeing, hand stitching, and lino printing. I work slowly, deliberately, and by hand — exploring what happens when traditional craft is treated with the same care and seriousness as fine art.
I’ve spent over 15 years creating, teaching, and facilitating workshops across studios, galleries, schools, and community spaces. I teach because these skills matter. Hand stitching teaches patience. Machine quilting teaches confidence. Natural dyeing teaches respect for process. Printmaking teaches courage in mark-making.
In my workshops, you’ll work at a calm, focused pace. You’ll learn real techniques, make something entirely your own, and leave with skills and confidence to continue at home.
