What you'll do
In this hands-on workshop, "eartastic" you will learn techniques to make a pair of earring designed and hand made by you! The workshop is hosted in the Blue Mountains, Lady Bird Studio / Karinya which has expansive views over a valley of trees, the property backs onto the national park.
You will begin learning how to work with metal, first using copper to practice saw-pierced and texturing which will help develop your idea. Then after morning tea move on to creating your own beautiful sterling silver pair of earrings.
With time to focus and hone your skills, this class, open to all levels, is the perfect starting point to get creative and make some fabulous wearable piece of your own design.
The workshop is for beginners or anyone with some experience. All materials will be provided at no extra cost.
Essential techniques covered:
- Metal cutting – learn how to saw-pierce metal using professional jewellery saw frames
- Texturing and stamping – whether it’s a hammered texture or stamping, there is a range of tools to experiment with
- Anneal – using special jewellery torches watch how to anneal metal
- Finishing – learn how to file and use emery paper to give your earrings a final finish.
We finish in time lunch (BYO your lunch), time for you to relax and enjoy the view.

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 14 years old). An adult must accompany any attending kids, and must pay for a separate ticket.

Fran is a local jewellery artisan, Ladybird Design, creating bespoke jewellery for over ten years. Ladybird Design is where each jewellery piece is a unique design and individually handcrafted.
Fran has always been creative and has a Bachelor of Arts, Visual Arts. She has been painting, card making and creating collages for over 27 years.
Since moving to Blue Mountains in 2017, Fran has continued to create art, mainly bespoke jewellery and teaches workshops on jewellery, painting, card making, collage, printing and bees wax wraps.
She'd like to share the joy of creating and making with you.

Fran is friendly, experienced and a great teacher - just enough guidance to give you confidence but not too much so you really design and create your own jewellery. Her studio has a wonderful view of the mountains and is well equipped. We were amazed at how far we got in 4 hours - from complete beginners with no design to completing our new earrings (which were surprisingly beautiful considering we had no creative bent at all) We are looking forward to doing another class with Fran soon.

It was a great course. At the end you get to come home with your own earrings and the venue was great. Everything was there and the view at lunch time was fantastic, really enjoyed it. Fran was an awesome teacher and explained everything in a way that made it easy to follow and do.

Fran is very talented and a great teacher. I finally did a jewellery class where I finished a fab and wearable pair of earrings I am proud of. Frans venue was properly organised with we had access to everything we needed. Fran was friendly and easy to understand. The class was well paced and held at a great venue. Absolutely loved Fran’s silver jewellery making workshop. She’s highly experienced, patient and taught with empathy and great skill. The class was terrific. Fran was super lovely, knowledgable, outgoing and caring which made me feel completely at ease. She was so helpful and I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I can't believe I made a full set of gorgeous earrings on the first day which I gave to my daughter who bought me the class as a gift. I also had one of the best tasting coffees made for me ;). The studio has a very relaxing ambiance in a lovely bush setting. Fran is a true artist with a lot of other talents all of which added to the creative energy of the day. Fran makes her own beautiful jewellery, many of which I was tempted to buy for myself (and might still do).
