If so, Skilled Welding’s three-hour welding workshops could be just what you are looking for. Our welding classes in Perth and the surrounding areas are available today to help build the skill sets of DIY hobbyists and amateur metalworkers.
We offer the most comprehensive beginner workshops for DIY welding in Perth. Our non-accredited sessions will teach you the very basic techniques, processes and rules of welding and metalwork.
Skilled Welding’s workshops are taught in a fun and engaging classroom environment for up to eight people per session. Through our welding classes in Perth, we can help you bring your art project or construction ideas to life.

I organised this class for my wife and I as a bit of a new experience for our 10 year wedding anniversary (classically this is either tin or aluminium, but steel welding is close enough). I've messed around with a stick welder before, but my wife (who is the daughter of a welder) has never picked one up and was pretty excited/nervous.
The workshop was large, airy and easy to find and even though it was a stinking hot day there were lots of fans and a mobile aircon unit so it was reasonably comfortable.
Coster who ran the class is a deadset legend, super friendly and knowledgeable, he offered us water bottles as soon as we arrived and made us feel right at home.
It turned out that, because of the heat that day, the other people attending the class had pulled out so we ended up having a private session with Coster which was outstanding. He was stoked to hear it was our anniversary and gave us some options on what to do and totally tailored the class to us. It turns out that he is an artist as well as a welding teacher and runs a steel art class on ClassBento as well (look it up). He showed us some of his pieces and we opted for a mix of the basic mig welding course that we signed up for and also to have a go at working together to make a sculpture out of scrap nuts/bolts (which is usually done in the other class).
We were walked through use of the safety gear and how the machines worked, how to run the gas and replace the feed wire and then got into the welding practicing making simple lines and butt welds.
All of the equipment provided seemed good quality and we both felt well protected using it. The welding masks were auto darkening which made things pretty easy.
Once we'd practiced making some welds we selected some scrap and decided to copy a dog sculture design of Coster's since it looked a lot like our own puppy at home.
Planning and assembling the sculpture piece by piece, finding ways to support the different elements with magnets and then tack welding them in place was a really fun experience. Both my wife and I took turns making the tack welds and working out the next steps.
Coster was always on hand to offer advice and help us find ways to better support the parts or make the sculpture more dynamic. But he also let us find our own way and work out what we wanted to do.
At the end he helped us grind down some of our messier welds and spray laquered the final sculpture to take home.
Overall it was an amazing experience. My wife and I are extremely grateful to Coster for making our anniversary so memorable and getting to take home such a fun sculpture that we made together. I highly recommend Coster's courses (particularly the steel art class) to any couples looking for a unique experience to share.

Awesome introduction to MIG welding. Coster is very knowledgeable and was able to explain the concepts in an easy to understand way. The workshop was spacious and the gear performed very well. Great class! Coster our teacher was fabulous. He showed us the basics then gave us free reign to create what we wanted. His method was learn by doing, giving us tips and tricks along the way which is much better than excessive time spent on theory. 100% recommend!

My husband and I attended the welding for beginners class for our 11th anniversary. Traditionally known as the ‘steel year’ I thought this class was well suited for a gift to him .
Coster, our teacher was the best We arrived pretty late due to a crash on the freeway, Coster made sure we got all our time paid for and more, which we didn’t expect at all He made the lesson fun and informative. He was so pleased that we were happy and laughing during the class,and in his words ‘art is at its best when it brings a smile’. So true! Thank you Coster.

Coster was a very knowledgeable teacher. He ensured we all understood the basics of how to achieve a good weld before unleashing us to our own creative devices. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and have a new profound respect for the skill of welding as well as steel as a medium for art.

So, we're never going to be welders, but we were such a mess and laughed so hard for so long
Would recommend having a vague idea of what you can put together with nuts and bolts mainly. That took up the most time. Staring at bins of bolts was a challenge for my other half. Would suggest printing out photos of what other participants have done in the past and pin them to a board somewhere in the workshop Would be nice.
Instructions we good. Equipment was daunting. Went as a couple and you cant really do much together because the work spaces are appropriately set up for one person per workstation. That's our ignorance there. But we navigated ourselves around it.

"Steel" Wedding Anniversary. My wife and I had a great time celebrating our 11th year of marriage. Coster was great and very patient with us. He took us through everything we needed to know, we never felt rush and we all had a great time. I love that we were able to take our new skills and make something to remember the night. It was an awesome experience!

This was such a great introduction to welding which my partner and I both loved so much we want to get our own welding machine. Costa is a great teacher, explained all the safety aspects thoroughly, guiding us through as we made our own art pieces. Who would have thought welding could be so easy and artistic. Will look at doing more classes with this teacher.

Loved this class! Caden went through all the safety steps with us and we had plenty of practice before we were set loose to create. It was really satisfying to walk away with a metal sculpture of your own making.

My beginners MIG class with Jason was great.
I wanted a refresher on welding as I hadn’t done any since high school.
Jason was helpful ,friendly and easy to talk to.
I learnt of some tools I could use in my car project and some great techniques to help my welding .
Jason has given me the confidence to set up my welder and attack the rust removal on my panelvan.
I recommend the course to anyone who wants to learn to MIG weld.

Coster Mkoki was a great teacher, my friend and I went to learn the basics of welding and make a art peice,, we were the only 2 girls but were made to feel very welcome, and we came away feeling pleased with our creation, not because it looked fantastic but because it was actually welded. Haha

Attended this class to learn how to weld to make art sculpture.
It was so much fun! Coster is a great teacher who explains the technique well and makes you feel really comfortable.
I highly recommend, central location, easy parking, good facilities with toilets etc.
Also you get to take a sculpture home!

This was a really interesting and enjoyable class, and Coster is an engaging teacher. He’s also really careful about the safety aspects of welding. I learnt a lot more than I expected to, and made an ant sculpture, which was really good fun !

I am absolutely chuffed with the beginners welding art class that I recently took!
Honestly - It was simply the best class I've ever taken, and I have Coster, our teacher, to thank for that. He was an absolute gem - patient, knowledgeable, and just an all-around amazing instructor. I genuinely can't say enough good things about him!
The venue was also top-notch - a well-equipped workshop with all the tools and materials we needed.
I feel like the class was an excellent value for money. I learned so much and had the opportunity to be creative with my project. I really felt like a little artist. I felt supported to just have a go and Coster was always there to offer guidance and support.
In short, this was an incredible class and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone interested in learning welding. Coster is an exceptional teacher and the experience was worth every dollar.

Really enjoyed the MIG welding course with Coster our instructor. We were taught 2 basic joins and how to weld with the MIG welder, then we got creative. I really enjoyed challenging myself and dabbling in something new.
Would definitely go again to keep working on my skills.

This was a fun class and perfect for beginners (I've never done welding before but a few of the blokes in the class had dabbled but still mentioned how much they got out of it). The teacher, Koster, was friendly and knowledgeable. After running through the basics of technique and safety we got hands on. We had a great time practicing on bits of scrap metal and learning the feel of the different welding machines. We finished the session with making some "art work" out of nuts, bolts, ball bearings and scrap metal. I'm not sure I'll be quitting my day job to pursue metal work anytime soon but I had fun and would recommend the class.
