This sourdough bread baking class uses simple, tried and true method of sourdough bread baking that is as easy or easier than typical methods using commercial yeast.

What you'll get
You will make your own bread and have many samples.
 
What to bring
  • An accurate digital scale-able to read in 1 gram increments.
  • A bowl suitable for mixing bread dough (approx 25cm diameter. No smaller than 22cm and no larger than 30cm.)
  • A bowl or "banneton" suitable to take home the dough prepared. (This can be the mixing bowl used to mix the dough).

Note: The shape of the bowl/container needs to be compatible with the shape that the loaf needs to be when baked in the baking vessel. A limited number and range of cane "banneton" proofing baskets will be made available for purchase on the day (approx $25 each).
  • A tea towel (optional).
  • A 'probe' thermometer for testing dough temperature (provided free of cost on the day).
  • Dough/bowl scraper.
  • Disposable hairnets (for lining container).
  • Disposable shower caps (for covering dough).

The Workers' Educational Association of South Australia Incorporated, founded in 1913, is Australia's largest non-government adult community education organisation.

The WEA provides learning opportunities for anyone aged 15 years or older (in most courses - there are some age restrictions on individual courses) and there are generally no pre-requisites for courses and no assessment or exams.

We operate as an innovative, flexible provider of moderately priced adult education services. We're an independent, non-government association almost completely funded by the student fees that we receive.

In addition to our skills and enrichment courses including computer training, we offer overseas tours, services to assist people with a disability enter mainstream courses and WEA Clubs membership that enables students to continue their interests.

The WEA conducts courses at over 30 locations in metropolitan Adelaide, South Australia. A large part of our program is conducted at the centrally located WEA Centre in Angas Street, Adelaide.
