Want an introduction to pottery without a full commitment? Join us for Unwind With Clay—a focused, 75-minute wheel-throwing pottery workshop designed to get you straight into the meditative flow of shaping your own ceramic art.
We’ve streamlined the process by handling the technical setup, allowing you to spend your time on the most rewarding part: transforming raw clay into a beautiful, functional piece.
What to expect in this workshop:
  • Direct Creative Flow: We’ve pre-prepared the clay so you can jump straight into the fun part—shaping, styling, and refining your work.
  • Expert Techniques: Our instructors will guide you through essential skills like collaring and pulling to help you create your own bowl, cup, or vase.
  • A Moment of Zen: Step away from the city hustle. This is a dedicated space to breathe, connect, and get your hands dirty in a supportive, relaxed studio environment.
Perfect for solo adventurers, creative date nights, or a catch-up with friends. Come find your rhythm behind the wheel and leave with a sense of accomplishment and your own handmade creation.
Our one-off workshops require at least 4 participants on weekdays and 5 participants on weekends to cover our instructors and materials. If the workshop doesn't reach the minimums we will contact you asap to find a workshop that suits your schedule.
Workshop Booking & Quota Policy
Why We Have a No-Cancellation Policy
Behind every workshop is a lot of unseen love and labor. To cover the fixed costs that keep our studio running—including instructor pay, materials, class prep, scheduling, and admin organization—we are unable to offer cancellations or cash refunds once a spot is booked.
What Happens If a Class is Under-Enrolled?
Our workshops require a minimum number of participants to successfully run. If your selected date and time does not meet this quota, we will ask you to reschedule to a future session.
Your Booking Never Expires: If we have to shift your date, your booking turns into a permanent studio credit.
Finding Your Perfect Fit: There is no rush to reuse it. We will work closely with you to find a future workshop that perfectly matches your availability and has a confirmed group of makers ready to throw some clay!
Kingston Clay Studio was founded on real industry experience. Studio owner and second-generation potter Peder Wilhelm McCanless, trained in the Seagrove, North Carolina tradition, has spent over 40 years as a working potter, production studio owner, gallery owner, and nonprofit pottery organization leader across the US and Australia. That background sets the standard for everything taught here. Our instructors teach proven production techniques, the same methods used by potters working in the industry, not just classroom exercises. The equipment throughout the studio, including our wheels, kilns, mixers, and pugmills, is professional-grade gear we also sell directly to the public as an authorized dealer for Nidec-Shimpo and Venco. Our facility is fully heated and cooled, well lit, and spacious enough to host team building events for up to 50 participants.
