Join Rebel Stepz and a panel of special guests to celebrate Women's Equality Day! This online event will be a chance to hear from six of Melbourne's most talented and artistic women, leading the way in the arts industry.

This will be an opportunity for everyone to learn about the challenges our panellists encounter and how being women within the arts sector has affected their careers.

Panelists will discuss topics including:
- Male structures in the workplace
- Female structures (do women really support women?)
- The perfect image of a woman (rejection vs perfection)

Our guests will be invited to ask our panellists questions and take part in live polls and brainstorming exercises. This is about sharing information and inspiring each other.

All women are welcome!

Meet the panel:

- Sheena Chundee (Artistic director, Rebel Stepz): Sheena is a former ballerina and choreographer who trained and danced with The Royal Ballet and dance companies such as English National Ballet and The Australian Ballet. Sheena went onto work as a sound engineer while completing a BA in Journalism and Creative Writing. Sheena founded Rebel Stepz, a creative arts organisation that designs workshops, events and programs for schools, youth groups and community organisations, as well as offering production services to corporate groups. Rebel Stepz consists of dancers, actors, designers, stage technicians, artists and musicians.

- Jo Walker (Content strategist): Jo Walker is a Melbourne-based content strategist who's worked with brands such as Spotlight, Medibank and Doc Martens to tell stories and nab audiences in print, digital, podcast and social media. She was editor of Frankie Magazine and editor-in-chief of Frankie Press for over a decade, collecting two Australian Magazine of the Year awards and three Women's Fashion Awards at the Australian Magazine Awards. She also features in the book Queens of Print: Interviews with Australia's Iconic Women's Magazine Editors.

- Lisette Drew (Stage manager and author): Lisette Drew is a writer and stage manager graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Production, receiving the Friends of VCA Limelighters Award and the Ron Rosanove Travelling Scholarship for her theatre work. Lisette is currently a stage manager bringing stories to life on stage for Melbourne Theatre Company. She has worked on twenty shows with the company, many being new Australian plays. For the last three years, Lisette has toured theatre productions to young people in Victorian and Tasmanian regional communities.

- Deepa Mani (Artistic director, Chandralaya Dance): Deepa is the artistic director of Chandralaya School of Dance, an Indian classical and contemporary dance school in Melbourne aimed at nurturing and developing the inherent artistic interests of each student. Deepa made the move 2.5 years ago and switched careers from IT to the arts and she has been loving the challenge of startups and nurturing small business. Deepa believes that her knowledge of IT has given her all the tools needed to become an entrepreneur.

- Samantha Sharpe (Singer/songwriter): After stints as a personal trainer, baker, and children's entertainer, Samantha finally found her calling as a singer/songwriter. Sam believed that following her passion and being brave enough to "jump in" was the best way forward. Sam has always entertained the idea of being a CEO, and believes she is, "just on a smaller scale". Sam has had much success with live performances and releasing her first EP in 2019 which included five original songs which were independently released and recorded.

- Nat Rowe (Director, revolutionary Drones Records): Nat is a Melbourne-based creative focused on management and marketing. Nat founded Revolutionary Drones Records in 2016. Revolutionary Drones offers artist management and business advice, marketing plans, and also digital solutions including web hosting and design. Nat has helped grow small businesses by producing engaging, original and SEO friendly copy for websites. Nat is also a skilled strength trainer, running her own boot camps and teaching classes for women's only fitness groups. Nat is a keen craft maker, designing underwear and accessories.

- Beray Uzunbay (Artist): Beray is a Melbourne based painter. She creates landscapes using soft pastels, teaches, curates and exhibits her work. In 2020 she curated and co-curated AFTER DAWN exhibition at Albert St Gallery and the Ramadan exhibition at Islamic Museum of Australia, respectively. Beary's art is all about exploring human emotions and making commentary on important socio-political issues. She draws inspiration from the post-impressionist movement and from artists like Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet. Beray was also a Creative of the Year 2019 Finalist for Australian Muslim Achievement Awards, alongside Nazeem Hussain and Maryam Popal Zahid.

This is an 18+ event so feel free to grab your friends, open a bottle of wine or some beers and let's chat!

Myself and my collective, Rebel Stepz, believes in making the Arts accessible to our community.
We create a fun, safe, educational and creative environment where people of all ages can not only connect with each other, but also with their creativity and with the amazing talent we have facilitating our workshops.

Every workshop we hold is an opportunity for everyone to discover a facet of the arts, whether that be through painting, singing, dancing, craftwork, film, acting or music.

Each session is also a chance to support local artists, dancers, musicians, and all the other artistic professionals we are lucky enough to have right here in Melbourne and worldwide.
