Mindful Japanese art of ceramic mending

4 hours

Class size 1 to 5 (public classes), 6 to 8
  $185 (Afterpay available)

Next workshop in Lithgow is 28th February 2026.
Would you like to take a break and learn the mindful art of Kintsugi in the tranquil town of Lithgow? This four-hour kintsugi workshop in Sydney's Blue Mountains will introduce you to a new skill while giving you time to zen out with an ancient craft.
Kintsugi is a century-old Japanese craftwork where broken ceramic objects are pieced back together using lacquer and gold dust based on the philosophy of Wabi Sabi finding beauty in imperfection. The process transforms much-loved, worn items into a beautifully crafted new piece of art. It is a chance to live a more sustainable way and rescue objects that would otherwise be discarded.
This workshop is beginner-friendly and hands-on. Under the guidance of your experienced kintsugi teacher, you will fundamental art kintsugi skills using the kintsugi method. We'll follow the principles of ancient Kintsugi utilising more accessible alternative materials (such as resin and gold metal) which enables us to complete the process safely and within the class timeframe.
At the end of the class, you will take home a piece of your own Kintsugi art and be able to continue your kintsugi practice to repair your items at home.
Please note:
  • Class is suitable for over 18 years old.
  • Not suitable for a pregnant person.
  • Some of the materials we use are synthetic; therefore, the items cannot be used as dinnerware with food directly on them.
We are also happy to organise your private workshop to come to your home, for a group of 4 or more people. Please send message.
About the venue:
Gang Gang Gallery is housed in the heritage space of the Old Refreshments building of the Theatre Royal on Main Street Lithgow. After being purchased in 2012, the building has undergone major development and transformed into what it is today, a contemporary gallery and function space that has still maintained traditional 1900s features to emphasize the blend of old and new. Working with local interior and timber artist Damian Howard, the gallery has been designed to host exhibitions of artists in the light-filled main space and along with a permanent collection of glassware, porcelain, timber, and ironwork. Gang Gang has an earnest and growing connection with the local community and aims to embrace the future of the Blue Mountains while paying tribute to its past.

I started to practice Kintsugi a few years ago in Japan to incorporate its unique nature of the Japanese traditional craft into my design.
I run Kintsugi workshops to share the joy of learning this Japanese craft full of surprises and contradictions.
